Mesa Boogie M9 Megathread: Pt II

Soooo, just reading the manual and the mids are boost only and starting at full CCW anything after that starts to boost the voicings? So with voice 4, let's say, and mids at 10 you are still boosting and not cutting? So many noob questions....:D

I find I use the mid knob off of center for even more boost if I am also using the GEQ to cut out most of the signal over 1k and in the bottom-most band. Thickens it up, depending on the room. :cool:

It won't handle 2 Ohm loads and it doesn't quite run with the M9 for thump, tone or versatility, but it fits in a Walkabout gigbag, along with an Optostomp compressor, Planet Waves pedal tuner and all my cables. This was a conscious decision to downgrade for convenience. For my bar gigs the
MB800-LDS 15/6 rig is simple, light and does all I need. If I really want to get the extra 5% of tone I have decided to either lug an extra cab and go Walkabout-12/6, 15/6 or WA DI>>MB800>>15/6. The latter option doesn't capture the full Walkabout goodness, but is still as toneful (in a grittier way) than the M9.

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose:p
One day I may grow out of the gear flipping compulsion........but then again maybe not......if it feels good, do it......

Well my M9 is slated to arrive tomorrow! I can't wait to pair this with my Avatar 153.....maybe two. I've never had a single Mesa product and have pretty much been a GK guy since 1989. Looking forward to a breath of fresh air.

I played GK (and a SVT-CL) for years and my M9 kills anything Ampeg and GK makes IMO. I A/Bed the M9 with a SVT-II Pro recently and the M9 was much more articulate, way more headroom and sounded better to me.

Strangely, I owned a Mesa BB750 for a brief period and hated it.

I picked up a perfectly mint PH410 today as it was stupid cheap.

Plugged it into the M9 for a few minutes between conference calls and it sounds great. Unfortunately I A/B-ed it with my Sadowsky SA410 cab.:smug: Damn, does the Sadowsky/Berg stuff sound good with the M9.:hyper:

The Sadowsky is better IMO (more articulate is what comes to mind), but not by much. The PH410 does pair well with the M9 though. I has this cab previously and it didn't sound as good with GK and Ampeg.

P.S. the M9 likely sounds good with any cab though.:smug:

Oh, is there a more rugged cab out there than the PH? With the exception of the Mesa Road Ready cabs, the PH cabs are built like a tank.... And weigh a friggin' ton!

Got it. 10 minute test ride. It's a mutha f&%%ing hammer!!!! Holy cow, I thought my MB800 had punch. I'm really liking setting 4 for an aggressive grind. Setting 4 and 5 seems a lot alike to me with 4 just having more of a gut punch. 5 seems to grind a bit more in the lower mids but 4 seems to just be all over more of a kill shot....to me at least.

I'm super impressed to say the least. The honeymoon begins...
