Mesa Boogie M9 Megathread: Pt II

I will grab a MB800 if they have it in stock. Does it sound much different than the Fusion 550?
Looks like the MB800 is out of stock but they have a MB500.
Not to turn this into a GK thread, but is the 500 similar tone-wise to the 800? Just less power?
My upcoming gigs are typical bar gigs where my M9 through a Sadowsky 4ohm 410 was loud enough with gain at 11:00 and the master under 9:00.

Hey guys. Quick Question. How do you like the DI on your M9? Im thinking of switching and I am very spoiled by my Edens DI. I know Im being a little lazy in the search department.

I always had great results with my wt800 and navigator DI's....
I've always had nice results with the M9 and Walkabout DI's as well.
The wt800 is a fairly different flavor than the M9, for sure; so, if you're using the post eq option it'll sound "appropriately different" as it were.
All things being equal, "pre-eq should be very similar between the two."

Haha! Yes, it should sound VERY different. I love my WT800, I think its just time for a change. Another "lazy" question. How do you control the DI level on the M9? With the master? One thing I love on my eden is the seperate DI level. I can turn my cabs off and just let the FOH take it. From there I can slowly bring them up if needed.
Yes the MB500 and MB800 are very similar tone wise with the 800 just having more gut punch ability. The 500 is certainly no slouch though.
+1. An MB500 will be ample through a 4 Ohm 410. No worries. That's how I'd roll.

Nice size though. Really light and small..... But I don't know about the switches on the top of the casing.... What if my beer spills?. ;-)
I am a dumbass in any case.... The amp I got is the MB Fusion 500w! Not the MB 500.... Thought they were the same!
So, Just got a call from L&M where my amp went for service and it was apparently fixed in record time.... the problem was a loose nut that was touching the front of the circuitboard.
I am trusting that it will be good as the amp tech really knows his stuff.
Having said that, I REALLY like the MB Fusion! It isn't a M9, but after playing it for 5 minutes, I really dig this amp and it's portability. I think I am going to buy one for rehersals and small gigs.

1) good news on the loose nut grounding out: easy fix.
2) don't discount the giggablilty of the MBF. I've used mine for everything, right up to big outdoor stuff.

Very glad to see you got it sorted--although I have to confess it's not entirely for your good fortune....
I joined TB last year because I randomly happened to use an M9 ("Oh, hey...a Mesa!") when trying out basses at GC for a friend's daughter, and from the first notes it had me thinking about replacing my aging lead sled from 1988. However, once online I discovered the ongoing M9 fix-it saga, and it's cases like this that have stayed my hand from reaching for my wallet ever since. (20+ years with a single amp that never failed has me a bit spoiled, and that bias caused me to go with a great Genz amp...which I love for everything it is--and will keep--but unfortunately is not an M9 Carbine...with those little horns, little forked tail, and whispers of unparalleled power. "Get behind me, Carbine...and while you're back there, why don't you hop up on that AE410?"

However, Baird's amp's miraculous redemption has me back on the wagon, baby. So I'm taking a public pledge now, before I change my mind--the $999 Lomo caused me to save is going to start my "New M9 Fund," and when it hits $1549, some bass boutique's getting a call. After all, new = latest updates + sufficient warranty to satisfy the paranoid and biased. All other purchases are off the table for now.Oh, and if anyone else's M9 cut out, blew up, severed a major portion of their anatomy, blinded their significant other, lost their dog, triggered an IRS audit, caused famines in the third world, or released Ebola into the general populace...save it for your one-star Amazon review.
