I can't say enough about the tone and crazy headroom this amp has. I doubt I will own another head for a very long time..... Unless this head dies.... Then I will be done with Mesa!:spit::D

Of course, if a M12 comes out..... ;)

Tell me this fellas.

I removed the 4 Ohm amp from my walkabout Scout 15" + Horn Cab". If I used the 300w Pulse head and put it through two 8 Ohm cabs would I get more sound? I would want a 15" speaker if I did this and looking for ideas on the second cabinet.

Also it's ok for you Noth Americans who are all 6' 18 inch weightlifters but I am a 5' 2" 59 year old Irishman so I need light speaker cabinets so ideas on that would help. I tried Markbass but I don't like them. Seemed sort of constipated rather than tight.

I have my m9 carbine up for trade but played it last night and still love it. It has SO MUCH power and tonal flex I'm not sure if I can let it go...just so good..

I love the walkabout too ....but that m9 just slays. Throw a good tubey preamp(I use an ebs valvedrive) in front of it and you can dial in crunch or OD on top of the m9 warmth. Frankly the stringray classic e string with the carbine may be the best sound in rock bass IMO.

I like the gain up above 1 oclock and using the graphic eq to bump the low mids, cut a little 33hz, cut the 900hz a bit and fairly flat sloping down sightly on the upper register..luv it

One of the nicest features of the M9 is the compressor. I use it sparingly to add a little punch and to protect the speakers from too much aural assault at higher volumes. The comp does add a nice clarity and punch to the sound. Its dead simple to use and really is one of the nicest built in comps I have ever used. I pretty much don't use my pedal board anymore with the M9.

So true about the deep switch at moderate levels. It also really depends on the room, IME. Love the compressor. :D

I thought about swapping for a V12 a few months ago, then played one a bit again and it was no contest. The M9 is just ridiculous, especially if you have outboard "drive" pedals (like me) and don't need the onboard OD from the Titan.

I had an SR5 for about a month and it definitely sounded awesome... Not as awesome as my NS-5 through it, but hey 2nd place ain't bad........... ;) ;) :D

I have Voice 4 on right now w/ the G/B/M/T at 11, 1, 10, 12 and the Compression on lightly.
Just can't beat it.

I am going to post on the Walkabout forum but before I leave you guys can I ask a question please?

The walkabout has a 300Watt Pulse head. I think this is a great head but the passive down firing speaker (yes - it's a fancy port but I never heard a bass rig sound like it) in the scout cabinet gives that awesome sound that made me decide to buy Mesa. Mesa is VERY expensive in Ireland/UK. Much more expensive than Marshall etc.

This is a obviously a "Jocks forum" with Carbines and Big Blocks and bigger cabinets and I wondered if that sound (I guess it's nearly physical since it vibrates the floorboards) I have described is apparent in the big rigs which I assume are ported but send the sound out the front in a traditional fashion.

We're in recession here, too....all the more reason for Guinness goodness:p The Walkabout head differs markedly from the carbine heads, and the Scout cabs are tuned lower than the Powerhouse cabs. Different lines (ranges) with different tonal profiles. Both good, but different, like Guinness and Bourbon:D

Hey folks,
I'm a RH450 user right now... and frankly, I have become somewhat disillusioned with my amp. I have begun considering replacing my amp and the M9 has become my main interest as a replacement.
I do however have some concerns after reading this and the previous thread about reliability. It seems from what I have read, that Mesa has fixed most of the issues with the earlier models, but I can also see that some are having issues with current models. As I will have but one amp, I am concerned that I will be left without any, should an M9 purchase be made...
Would anyone please be kind enough to comment on this?

Mine IIRC is a late 2009 model and has had the heat-sink update stuff done @ Mesa directly. I got mine from the original user last February (2010). Been in a rolling rack since then and tossed and jerked around and played heavy at loud volumes for extended periods and have had no issues (even in a big rack w/ other very hot racked tube gear) at all. I would get a new one w/out hesitation, IMHO.

I think there's quite a few folks that ran the M9+AE410 setup in the first M9 Megathread if you want to start there. I had looked at getting one a while ago, actually but stuck w/ my Mesa's.

Ok so I just bought a M9 today with a ph212 and I'm loving it. The tone is monster!

I got a slight problem though. When I connect the footswitch, the mute light goes on and the switch on the pedal won't work. The eq switch works fine. I made sure the pull mute on the master volume was not engaged too. Do I need a tuner to be connected to the tuner out for it to work? Me confused..

edit: I figured it out, I had a mono cable instead of a stereo one...
