Mesa/Boogie Official Club Thread

"**** man. That little thing really boogies!" - said Santana when he heard Fender Princeton modded by Randall Smith (Mesa founder). Randall was also rebuilding old Mercedes-Benz and he needed official sounding name for ordering the parts (also parts for his amps) and "Mesa Engineering" appeared in his mind. That's the story.

Cheers, Kris

Yeah, in fact IF I recall the story correctly, "Boogie" came from a guitar player that (a long time ago) played through a Fender amp mod'd by these guys and said "Man, that amp really boogies". It might have even been Carlos Santana.

It was Santana. And if you would have read my M6 Carbine review, you'd know that! ;) :p :D

Tomorrow night, Fathom, 410, Sadowsky J5 and Skjold, southern/classic rock and some country.
Actually ended up being a Skjold and an MTD 535 (my newest ash body, ash neck, maple board, walnut top'd one). All I can say is, bring on the Marshal stacks biotches, I have the thunder in my back pocket! :D

another update

I have just been called the first lady of the Mesa Club. :bassist:

Okay, so I have a question for you guys...

I have a Warwick $$, BB750, and an SWR 410 Goliath, a little combo for home, a p-bass for the office and some accessories. I play symphonic hard rock/metal.

I know, I need to replace that cab with Mesa, but so far it has been working out and I would rather add gear than replace at this point. I tried going the SWR route and was horribly disappointed with it and returned it within 30 days and drove to another state (not really that far...an hour/ hour and half) to the nearest Mesa dealer... and asked for the most reliable thing he had that could put out. Anyhow, I have had this rig for a while and I want a little more oomph. I have been debating between adding a Mesa Road Ready 212 or 115. Just wanting to know your thoughts on these 2 cabs. I get great low end out of the rig, but I want a little more warmth out of the low end.

Suggestions?:help:

I'm officially finally joining the club. I pulled the trigger on a Fathom (now called the M6 Carbine). Amazing amp.
Vic - tell me about the Mesa + Epi 4x10? I ordered a Titan yesterday but am still undecided about the cab - was able to try it with a Powerhouse 4x10, but there's no Epis about to make the same comparison.
(Rather than say, "and I play ____ rock" I'll say I play in a covers band that does REM, ZZ Top, Mellencamp, Poison, 3 Doors Down, old Beatles and whatever else you're willing to pay us to play...).

With the Series 1 and Series 2 being somewhat different... especially with the 10" speaker based cabs. The S1 is stronger through the mids, whereas the S2 is (at least IMHO) more even sounding, so the S2 is my favorite, tho it is not a night/day difference.

I like the Epifani 410's a LOT, but the Bergantino AE410 is also a very strong contender. The main diff is the Bergs will be tighter and more focused sounding, with a bit more going on in the mids, whereas the Epifanis will be bigger sounding... more going on in the highs and the lows.

To more specifically answer your question tho, with my S2 UL410, the sound is massive and loud. Clear at the high end, sometimes even to the point where I drop the treble control a bit. Full and rich at the low end, and also, sometimes I even cut the bass just a bit. The mids are also very present, but not nasal or boxy at all. Great mix cutting tone throughout and PLENTY of punchy headroom.

The bottom line is, either one would be a fantastic cab for the Carbine, but then again, IMHO, the Carbine is one of those heads that I think lots of cabs would be great with... including the Mesa cabs... I just don't get into the heavy cabs anymore. I go for the particularly lightweight NEO stuff, which is pretty much defined by Epifani and the new Berg AE stuff at the high end, and at the less expensive end, the Avatar NEO 410.
