ha, I usually don't care much about aesthetics very much, but damn, those tan grilles look great on the black WA's. Of course, the Wine/Wicker thing is killer looking too.

btw dont know why but ive had 4 of these now 5 including this one and all of the previous models were pretty consistent sonically speaking, but this guy sounds freakin great!! or maybe i just missed the walkabout tone that much

I've been playing a bit with taking the WA's DI into a Carvin DCM1000 power amp. Both the DI output and master volume setting affect the tone (that is, they affect the tone cumulatively, with more total gain leading to a squishier tone).

That said, it seemed I could *very closely* match the sound from the WA-->Carvin LS1503 tone by running the WA DI into the Carvin power amp and from there into the LS1503. It just took some tweaking of the DI and master levels on the WA to get the match.

I'm curious to try this with more careful SPL-matching to see whether I can exactly match the tones. I'm also curious to try this tone experiment with a couple more robust cabinets and higher SPLs (the Carvin bridges to 1000 watts).

Seems to me that the best application here is to bring the WA alone for smaller shows and when you're hitting the big stage bring the power amp and more cabs. Unfortunately the DI would not be available for the PA?

Many power amps (including the Carvins) have an input signal pass-through on an XLR.

I really love my WalkAbout with two Baer ML-112's. My guess is that it would do pretty well with two 12/6's.

I've used it on top of 2 GK NEO 112's. On top of a pair of 112's, it is a formidable rig. I know some guys need more headroom, but that rig has held its own in place of a GK 1001 RB and Epifani 410 that I usually use with that band.

I use my Walkabout with either 1 or 2 8 ohm Aguilar GS112. I prefer the way it sounds as well as the headroom with 2 cabs but 1 is OK. Great combination.

I use my WA 12 with a Scout 1x12 with great results

Have also used my WA with:

2 Aggie GS112's (one was an NT cab). That sounded ok, but GS cabs are not my favorite in general. Sort of "generic" sounding. Plenty loud, not bad sounding, but not particularly great either... not much character to my ears.

1 Mesa PH112 + GS112NT (better sounding to me than 2 GS's) I think this combination worked because the Mesa mid growl integrated well with the more "generic' sound of the GS cab to present a big full tone with some character.

1 Mesa PH 2x12 (not exactly 2 1x12's I know). This was a big, very aggressive, low-mid & mid present sound that is pretty characteristic of Mesa PH cabs (IMO/IME).

So far, I'd have to say that my personal favorite cab combination with the WA is the WA 1x12 with a Scout 1x15. I know its a non matching cab rig, but it really sounded good to my ears. Sorry I sold the Scout 15.

was it the WA 1x12 combo or the 1x15 that you stacked on your Diesel 15?

I know the general wisdom here on TB is not to mix drivers (other than in the recent "super" 2 and 3 way cab designs), and generally I don't do it myself, but as I said, I really liked the WA 12 + 15 sound myself. Big, deep, and really used the total power and tone shaping capability of the WA amp very well.
