Really the best option is to convert your combo to 8 ohm and then add another 12" 8 ohm extension. The drivers can't really handle the power the WA puts out at 2 ohms anyways.

I personally preferred the sound of the 4 ohm driver in the scout combo when I A/B'd them but the difference was subtle. I have two 4 ohm cabs and the amp runs fine on loud rock gigs even with a upgraded quieter fan that doesn't quite move as much air as the stock fan.

check my bass's output jack, amp's input jack, start swirling input and master volume knobs around.
nothing seems to be fixing it.

then I remember, last time I ran it at a gig, I used the fx send/return with the fdeck hpf three.

reach back, hit the fx bypass, problem solved.
take a patch cord, insert into send and return several times each, toggle back, problem still solved.

My "back up" GB Shuttle 6.0 did this at rehearsal the other night too.
I just took my gtr lead & plugged it in & out of both send & return jacks a few times. Prob solved here too.

When practicing at home is there really any reason to be connected the walkabout to my other extension cab for better volume/tone or not really?


I just have the extra 4 ohm extension cab incase i play big gigs

I've often run my Walkabout at 2 ohms, but it'll be plenty loud for home practice into a single WA cab.

now there's a question for all you WA scout users: I'm in love with this amp, even though it's pricey as hell and I am not a professional player (almost nobody in Italy really is). It just plays soooo good, warm and creamy while retaining clarity and definition.
Anyway, in a thread I started somebody suggested that the single 12" cab might not be enough volume-wise despite the powerful head. what's your take on this?

I'll rarely hit big stages, mostly small to medium venues, and i'll run through the PA anyway. 300w i think might do the trick, but now that somebody has mentioned this "speaker area" thing I really am in doubt wether a single 1x12 could be enough.

Well, as usual: It depends...

I am using a single Baer ML112 (8ohm) in a very good sounding rehearsal room with either my Walkabout or an Ashdown ABM500. Both are OK in this room.
But once I am playing in other rooms I need to use either a 2x12" cab or the 500 watts ABM with the ML112.
BUT, once a year when I am playing on a classical theater stage, even the WA with the ML112 might be overkill as it has classical acoustics designed to sound good/loud without any additional PA...

So it is very difficult to give advice on this

The walkabout will be as loud as most 112 cabs and deeper/thicker tonally. No 112 (other than a boutique super 12 with a 3012 LF driver) will actually use more than about 125 watts, regardless of whAt amp drives it.

Mine is working a Mesa PH2x10 (600watt - 8 0hm) + a PH 2x12 (600watt - 8 ohm). For small spaces is way too much (no PA for me and still too much) but in bigger stages 10x8m or 12x10m is not enough.
I'm planning to let go the PH2x12 and buy a PH4x10. The problem is that the master can't go over 11 o' clock. That's were the farting begins.
So with the 2x12 I got 24 inch's and with the 4x10 I got 40 inch's and it will solve my deafness problem....

IMO the cabs selection is personal, test everything you can but be sure that the WB head is powerful.

I run mine thru two SVT210AV's. Since they arrived I've hardly used the Scout 12 at all. I can't say I need anything more than those, but I might add a third one later.

Having spectacular results with the bergantino ae 2x12 I just received.
Excellent match for the walkabout head so far, tomorrow is a loud gig so i'll get to open it up a bit.

Try cutting 50hz a bit for a little tighter, a little cleaner, a little more usable headroom.

Yep, sure is!
We play mainly pubs and bars, up to 100 people, and I only use the PA for my back-up vocals. Our drummer is strong and the guitar player likes it loud...

I went from a 2x15" 600 watt setup to the 12" Walkabout (8 ohm version) about two years ago. So far it has been loud enough for every place I've played, though that only ranges from small private parties to a few larger bars. On gigs I usually run through the PA and the amp isn't carrying the full load by itself, but is a really loud monitor at times. At rehearsals there is no PA and its kept up fine. It does get a bit distressed and fuzzy sounding when really cranked but I've had no problems with it so far.

So I am happy with the switch overall but ... there was something about the 2x15 that I missed. All that air moving let you really feel the bass and I wanted that fullness back. A few weeks ago I picked up a walkabout extension cab (from a TB'er no less) and wow, what a difference. Now I can get loud, really LOUD, and still keep a nice clean tone if needed. Its easily the best sound I've ever had.

So here is my final 2 cents - get the combo and it will be enough for many gigs. Adding another cab (or getting one big 4 ohm cab) brings the combo to a whole new level so either get it right away or start saving now.

That sums up my WA experience, as well. The Scout 12 combo is a great portable practice combo, but in a rock band, using the WA head on a larger cab is pure bliss, and plenty enough volume for all but the most extreme cases.
