Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

I'm back to giggin a Walkabout again, feels good!
And I found a way to use a headphone amp. I had an amplug with a broken 1/4" jack, so I removed it and soldered on a short cable. Plug it into the fx send on the WA, and now I can use the tone and gain settings and can plug my effects in to the front of my WA and have full headphone and media input use of the amplug. Win-win!

But doesn't that screw up the tone? :nailbiting:  :D

How close is your "earphone" sound to your amplified sound?

Thanks horse. I'm off work so, I've been playing the walkabout into an eden wt800 power section. Boner tone! It sounds even better through the titans power section. Same time as the wa, just the bottom is much more solid.
For you, perhaps, but others prefer that more loose, bouncy response of the WA (I don't either, but that doesn't matter). This is the sort of thing that makes the process do challenging.

I was thinking about maybe building myself a 2x12 cab for the walkabout head. On mesa's page you can purchase either the 12" scout drivers or the subway drivers. Could someone tell me how they compare tone wise? Any ts parameters or cab design suggestions from @agedhorse or anyone else? Is the details 2512II the same as either?

I understand that. How about a tone comparison of the drivers? I'm thinking also about two of the scout cabs but don't know what they sound like.
Without the cabinets, the drivers are just a component. It all depends.

@agedhorse, am i correct in thinking i can use the wa without a cab? preamp and di only?

This is the WA's hidden secret. It might be the best tube DI on the market and a steal at $400 used. I was recently able to compare it to a Noble DI and have previously compared it to a REDDI. I decided my money was better spent elsewhere and I will use my backup WA as my tube DI.

+1...I've used mine on studio recordings and the engineer/producer loved the sound. I frequently use the WA Scout 112 combo as a high quality DI and stage monitor all in one package. Every time I read people discussing the perfect combination of preamp, DI's, powered wedges, etc., for situations where FOH is covered, all I can think of is that Mesa already built the solution and it comes with a handle!
