Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

Would like to try my WA through a PH115, just to say I did... I love it plenty just through the Scout 112's.

Getting ready to load em up now for New Year's Eve gig, matter of fact...

Happy New Year All Y'all!

At the Parkway Brewery stage, in Salem Virginia again tonight...

What's the general consensus on running the WA cab-less for silent recording? I noticed today, in my first recording effort with the head, that the master set at zero kills the DI signal, so some level of cab sound must exist when running a speaker load (I don't have a dummy load ... Yet). I also know Mesa suggests running a load on their heads, even the solid state ones.

Anyone tried a WA through the new Berg. NV115? Just curious. It sounded great through my NV610, but I use my SVT-VR with that. I use my WA with a pair of Ampeg SVT-210AV's, which also sounds great.

I haven't (though I own a WA) but my guess is that the WA just isn't going to have enough juice @ 8 ohms to make that cab really sing and reach its full potential. I'm sure the combo would sound great, just not very loud.

I have, and it sounds absolutely fantastic. Two NV115's do even better, as there is not a lot of headroom with a single NV115 and the WalkAbout. But tone-wise, it's probably my favorite head (certainly my favorite ss/hybrid head) with the NV115. :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Using the great tip from TB, I put in the SilenX fan today - major improvement. The stock fan = vacuum cleaner. SilenX = an angel's whisper. The Walkabout in general is amazing and has the best amp DI for recording that I have used, especially when blended with a mic. Hard to see, but this one is wine red/blackface and I snagged it used for a good price. Next up might be the extension cab and a speaker swap.

Oh, I'm a Mesa fan and will probably order up a matching wine red Scout extention, unless I come across a used one somewhere. Then I'll change out the 4 ohm combo speaker for the 8 ohm one Mesa sells from their online store. More or less just to have for some more clean headroom at modest volumes.

^^ right with ya' on that, and the wine red/tweed is a great look too. ;)

Currently, I'm playing my Walkabout through two Scout cabs, and the sound is oh-so-sweet, but that they don't match visually is an issue I plan to address this Spring.

Question for the WA experts - Can the direct out be used to feed a power amp? If not then maybe the effects loop send?

Just wondering if I can run another cab or 2 with my crest xls 1500 on those rare occasions when the WA is not enough power. It would be best if I could use the WA power section at the same time since it sounds so good - maybe an issue for the effects send route. I could just try it but figured someone here could save me some time.

FWIW I did a search.

@morebass! I got this reply from Chef last month, regarding running two amps in tandem.

fx send from head one, to fx return on head two
done.

Not sure if this answers your question completely... but check back around post #220 for sunbeast's reply regarding the DI.
