Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

May have to remove the 1/4" Speaker jack from the back of the head and use a DVM set to Ω setting ....and read what you get off the jack. Or Pull the speaker out and see what is written on a tag. Maybe there is another way to find out. But that's what i would do..

This is the best way- If you measure the impedance, an 8ohm speaker should measure around 6ohms and a 4ohm speaker should measure below 4ohms

My Walkabout head arrived today. This amp is waaaaaayyyy louder than I thought it would be. :hyper::bassist::bassist::hyper:

yes, it is. Great tone and very usable volume, particularly if you use reasonably efficient multi-driver cabs (or multiple cabs).
I know I am old-school (which means I started out with, and was perfectly happy with 30-100w amps) and that there are many who think 800w-1kw is mandatory for a bass rig .. but the WA is a very honest 300w into 4ohms (and close to 500w into 2).
enjoy!

In the meantime I figured out the impedance thing on my Scout. Thanks to everyone, the Mesa CS and a digital multimeter :)

I have two WAs. One that came with the combo (2003, black lettering, 2 separate inputs, no fx loop bypass) and one as a head on its own (active/passive switch, black lettering, fx loop bypass).
Both have the same fan installed.
The fan on the later one is rather quiet, whereas the one on the older one is MUCH noisier. When the top U lid is removed it is a fair bit quieter (although still louder than the later one).
How is this possible?

As for tubes, a little 12AX7 rolling session (Genalex Gold Lion, Amperex, JJ ECC803S, TungSol ECC83 & ECC803S and the provided Mesa) brought me to my favourite combination:
- V1: ECC803S
- V2:TungSol ECC83 or JJ ECC803S

Hey fellas, quick question...

On my older silver-face model, with two separate inputs for active and passive... can I use both inputs simultaneously? As in a separate bass plugged into each? I gotta' double on upright for a couple songs at a concert tonight, and don't want to be fiddling around trying to switch cables. Obviously, I would have the volume off on the bass not in use.

Thanks in advance.

I think it will work, but the two instruments may load each-other down

Agreed, to me this amps volume is in the Goldy Locks zone. The first gig I took it on first thing the FOH guy said was could I turn down, second thing he said was that sounds really good. My GK certainly had much more thumpage on tap and I hated to see it go but it was just too much amp for me. I don't do a lot of outside stuff these days and if I do I'll just go FOH.

Actually I'm not doing much of nothing right now as I'm recovering from Spinal Surgery last week. I have been told I cant play for 4 weeks, that sucks. No gigs, no music, and pretty much not a whole lotta roasy either. I had an offer for some really good paying gigs for march I had to turn down. Bummer.

Thanks @sunbeast... I may another solution going, but it's worth a shot just to know.

I think it will work since I'm guessing your Upright is Piezo? I don't think the Piezo will load with the EB but I'm wrong quite often, just ask my wife. Two electric basses might not like it for sure if they are both passive, active doesn't matter. Also I think the gain equalizes between the two inputs, meaning they will now be of equal levels.

A good ol Boss TU 12 with its built in buffer will also help or some other kind of buffer.

So what are the basses and electronics?
