Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread part Four!

After having sold/traded my lovely Walkabout with bronco case to Stingray56 I can now once again join in the ranks of my walkabout brethren..just picked one up(no bronco case though:( and looking forward to pairing it with Stingray56's DB112..

Talk about sellers remorse....I notice the head I have now(silver/black with active input) seems to stay cleaner when gain is pushed...gets closer to 2 or 3 o'clock before you start getting more grit....interesting..the guy I bought it from is a DB guy..didn't say anything about tubes being swapped...

Have to open er up and look at the tubes one day soon

looks through the side grill (side by the input jacks)like a stock mesa tube(mesa stamp is on there)...after letting it warm up a bit it started to gain character at more like 2 than 3 oclock,..still...same WA tone that sounds so right.....I love it.....

Now..my next experiment is to split my signal...
cleanish tube tone--->WA with a little hair on it(around 2 on the gain)--->Glock cab
and
effected dirty---->upgraded TF 550b--->DB112...

Now the metro in me wants to stop all this mixing of brands...so aesthetically inconsistent......may need to go all aggie or mesa down the road...(but the WA STAYS) from now on:)

I was in your shoes...that is partially why I traded my awesome Classic Stingray for your Mesa Walkabout + headcase.

Now we are both back in the club and loving life! Your DB that will soon be arriving will go swimmingly with your WA and you'll be the mayor of tone city!

The low B sounded great through this rig. It was very tight and controlled, which worked out great in a rather boomy room. As Chef stated, though, these cabs don't have as much low end extension as the Scout cabs, but then again, neither does an Ampeg 810.

Man... I'm right here. Deciding between an extension scout or two av 2x10s. I think running two micro av's with the 4 ohm walkabout would be insane. It'd also give me a lot more options. And it's still light enough for a one trip dolly load in. I think I just made up my mind.

Yeah it's a good combination. I used to change my amps more often than my strings but I've had these guys for a couple of years now - a very full sound. The DBs have a pretty even sound and a strong bass presence - coupled with the WA eq you can do a lot.

Bahh! My WA went south on me and started to cut out. I was all set to do the Deoxit trick when I noticed mine had the bypass already installed and on. I got it to Mesa this morning and I'll know what they say in three weeks. I am really hoping they find something obvious.

WA Scout 12 4ohm, 4 gigs last week, no problems.
Yesterday afternoon @ Tattoo parlor opening she sounded
distorted & gnarly..? checked everything I know to check??
Had to run home & get back-up WA Scout 12. On the break I checked the head thru Backup cab.. sounded fine, also checked backup head thru bad cab.. same gnarly sound?

Recently bought Tubes (thanks to you folks) so I swapped em out & the head works beautifully.
I suppose she's blown but can't figure out how & why...

any tricks I should know about /or any recommended replacement speaker suggestions?

it's about the normals-ish price for a 12" neo, here.
a recone can work well, as long as it's getting the right parts.

a lot of manufacturers have tailer built drivers, and an off the shelf recone might not be same/same.
perhaps mesa could recone.

This solid line of reasoning led me to change the impedance to eight on the 12" Scout I'm waiting on. We need a smilie that taps its foot for all of us waiting on stuff... ;) If I ever need to move more air, I'll be hooking up to my Tri-112 for a four-ohm load.
