Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread part Four!

Well, this thread worked on me. I picked up on it a few weeks ago and read the whole thing. I also had the pleasure of a live demo from Chef one night with my LeCompte and his Walkabout/Powehouse stack. Left nice impressions on my ears.Gear curiosity syndrome finally overcame me and I ordered a Bronco Cream, eight ohm, 12" Scout. JUST missed the end of their free color upgrade, but oh well, it had to be creamy. So, I put up the current mini-rig for sale. It moved quickly and my living-room amp went to church. Now I'm relying on old Cafe Walter and (mostly) patiently awaiting news of a Scout landing! Thanks gentlemen, and you too, Chef.

You & me both. There are pics much earlier in this thread of a couple of creamy ones that perked my eyes to the possibilities...
Lomo - Chef is a solid player, and fun to hang with. Just kidding with the gentleman remark, he seems to behave himself just fine!
In fact..... I'm keen to hear from anyone who has A/Bed a DB112 with the Scout combo.
The Scout sounds quite similar to 2 x DB112s in this vid
I'm considering swapping out my DBs for a 4Ω Scout combo cab. I'm not doing many larger gigs these days so it would probably fit my gigs better.

Yeah...I do like the punchiness of the sealed 210s. I was thinking that the WA with two of them would make a great Micro VT sounding rig, but with added rubber band effect tube sound. With the Ampeg, the lows are a little lacking...I would like a little rumble, but I'm thinking two of them would get me there. But a WA stack would be pretty sweet too.
If you like the punchy, grindy, SVT cab sound, but you want to drive the cabs with more authority than the Micro-VR can deliver (and you want all the other great things that the Walkabout head brings to the table), then this really is a great rig:
The low B sounded great through this rig. It was very tight and controlled, which worked out great in a rather boomy room. As Chef stated, though, these cabs don't have as much low end extension as the Scout cabs, but then again, neither does an Ampeg 810.
Yeah man: I gigged that stack, and it was indeed a really good thing.
A very different thing than two Scout cabs tough, which was really nice as well.

If you do, I'd advise getting the second 210AV first, especially if you like that cab.
They're cheap, they're light, and: they're cheap and light.
Two of them really is enough for most things, for me, and that's a really good sounding rig.

Thanks Tom! Yeah...I have one of each right now. Maybe I should do some serious comparing between the two before I jump in. Yeah...those 210AV's are so cheap and light...hard to pass up!
The only draw back is that my son occasionally uses the Ampeg in his room. Not too big of a deal though.

Actually I did, for a couple of weeks!
When one labeled band was doing tour support in Wisconsin for a couple weeks, we did one set a night of "speed metal polka" at this local beer-hole, under the name:
"Cheese Fist."
It was fun!
I'm super serial.
We played the album support gigs under a different name, in different venues.
How I didn't end up in a polka band is beyond me.

Just fired up my Walkabout that I got in a trade. My wife's reaction: "Really, 7am and you are turning on your rig in our living room". ; )
Anyway, Chef was dead on. The Walkabout is exactly what I was looking for. The 2 GK Neo112 II's paired with my GK MB2-500 was just a little too bright and high fi for me. However, the Walkabout really warms up the sound! I really like the tone shaping in the mids without it being too much to deal with like a graphic eq. I can't wait to gig this rig now!

I have been falling in love all over again with my WA and Scout 12 cabs. I've found my sweet eq settings for the WA through them...cut to 10 o'clock at 600 Hz, boost to 2 o'clock at 300, trim a tad at 2K. The pair handles low B at gig volume very well. I think I have learned quite a bit from the graphic on my M9 that I'm consciously applying to the WA, rather than fiddling around more haphazardly. Have a bar gig tonight and am still deciding between WA or M9 on my 15/6...
