Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Pt. Tres

Just joined a new band as their synth player-(though I may get to sneak in some bass playing too, but they've got a good bassist already) and using my Walkabout/Uber 212 rig with the synth. Just wanted to report, it sounds awesome. That is all.

Has anyone used their Walkabout head with the EA NL-210, either stand alone or with their Scout 12? It's billed as a very 'uncolored' sounding cab, but i suppose the personality of the Walkabout would still shine through, eh?
I'd get an 8 ohm cab to be able to pair it with my 4 ohm Scout ext. and it would be less of a load than running 2 4 ohm cabs. This would replace my Schroeder 15+. I'm thinking it would add more beef while still having clarity. At least that is what my mad monkey mind is telling me....

Still hoping someone can verify / explain the difference between the combo and the extension cabs being that the combo has less sqft of space for the speaker (room for the amp to be racked in). Is this indeed the case? Does the extra room on the extensions make the two cabs sound any different?

In my opinion there is "something" different about them...
I have the 12" and i did noticed something when i tried switching from one to the other.
Dont know if its because of the different size passive speaker but they seam to respond differently...
(im not sure i would be able to say which is which in a blind test though and im sure that no one would notice a difference between a walkabout combo and an extension VS a walkabout head and 2 extension cabs!)

I do, in fact, have a Walkabout Scout 12" combo. I've been running into some bigger gigs lately and have to run it a little louder, and I think I've mentioned before that I get a helicopter sound where I've determined with some significant input that I'm pushing the speaker very hard.

I've been looking at different cabs, a Mesa 2x12 or maybe the Scout Radiator cabinet, as that essentially makes it a 2x12. What would be the advantages and disadvantages of both of those choices? I like the 12" speaker sound, the mid-range punch, as I play it with a 4003 and I love that sound and just needed more air being pushed. Thanks in advance.

I think it would pretty much have to make some difference- also, as noted above, the passive radiator is a different size for the extension vs. the combo cab (IIRC). I will second that I doubt anyone besides the person playing through the cabs and specifically trying to hear the difference would ever be able to tell. The combo certainly seems like the best bet if you are just planning on running a single (too convenient not to), but either of the cabs should work fine as an extension (though you will have to find a way to extend the hard-wired speaker cable if you use a combo cab as an extension).

Played through a scout cab not long ago. Had the must creamy, fat sound I've ever heard from a small 'solid state' head. Seriously want one.

Anyone run a walkabout with Berg HT/EX112ERs? I'd imagine they'd be a lovely match, tubey sound would go great with low end response and old school flavour of the 12s.

Now finding one in Australia from under $2000 is going to be a problem :(

Anyone?!

....and another thing- just picked up an Aguilar DB112nt this past weekend. Walkabout loves that too. Paired with the Uber 212, strangely beautiful. The voicing of the 2 cabs is very different, but combined, it's something else entirely. Rocking 3 12's with a WA @ 2.6 ohms is also quite a bit louder.

Nope not tried a 1x10" ofANY sort with the WA. IMO they do sound better w/ matching driver sizes. I tried my 12" COMBO with a 1x15 & I like it FAR better with an 1x12. IMO etc..

So they ARE fine to run below 4 ohms??? I know this HAS been discussed  but I STILL HAVE to ask!

Thinking of running at 2.67 sometimes with the Berg AE212 :hyper:

So my WA Scout combo quit working the other day. I had a gig the night before, when I went to unplug I smelled (smelt) something akin to burned hair. My amp had run pretty hot, which was unusual. I went to turn it on the next day and nothing came out of it. I checked the guitar - fine. Cable - fine. Tried those through a different rig. I took off the top and checked the tubes, both fine. When I put the jack from the cable to the metal of my bass, you can hear a VERY faint crackle but that's all I get. Anyone have any experience close to this that might be of help?
