Mesa Boogie Walkabout Part 5!!!

has anyone experienced a walkabout that shut down while on a gig? I have performed twice with this amp and both time it shut down- I would turn it off and wait 15-30 seconds then it would turn on again. Luckily in both gigs it only happened once.
I'm using two (8 Ohm each) Epifani UL-15's- the eq setting is similar to mesa's "huge and round" setting- the gain was at noon and the volume was at 9 o'clock- amp sounded great- didn't feel like I was pushing it- nor was it hot or smelled odd (as do stressed amps can). was also using an Fbass BN6- i did not use the "active" switch on the amp.
first gig it happened within the first hour of the gig- the second time it was towards the end of the a gig- Reggae music. maybe the power cable connection? fuse? Could I have driven it to shut down with the active electronics and the volume?

power connection or fuse holder: maybe.
driven it to shutdown with your active bass: doubt it.
i've not heard of this under normal 4 ohm use.
(fwiw: none of mine has ever shut down under hard 2 ohm use)

no case- sitting on top of the cabs- using two- epi UL 15 cabs (8ohms each) the amp is months old- in fact these were the only two gigs i've played with it.
fuse holder? I'm thinking about putting it in a rack- maybe it would isolate the amp from vibrations? also- I can secure the power to a conditioner........

Call Mesa immediately!!! Leave voicemail today if you can.
If it's the fuseholder or power connection, I'd bet it's just making a crummy connection.
It totally should *not* be doing that.

Hi guys,I haven't used my WA on a gig for a cuppla weeks. Trying to get the GB STL-600 to work for me.
Dunno whether you've seen the thread put or my posts, but some ppl seem to not believe me when I state that I don't think it sounds like, or behaves like,a tube amp??
I'm finding it seems quite mid scooped,& I'm basically rolling the bass down to 9 o'clock & boosting the mids to 3 o'clock, even then it seems voiced-scooped?
As I've said in that thread, I've used all tube amps all my life & never had to do much eq-ing.
The WA I find SOUNDS like a tube amp & it's eq seems fine.
Wondering why ppl seem to think that 'scooped' sound is a 'tube amp sound?
In saying this, I'm wanting the STL to work for me, as I need a couple of decent rigs for nights I do multiple gigs.

Hey Chef- I just spent some time with the wa- and just found a suspect- the fuseholder is clearly loose and not secure to the amp. when I wiggle the fuseholder the amp turns on and off- you would think that part would be more securely fastened to the amp chasy........

Yeah, understand this. But am getting the STL close to where I want it. It certainly ain't no WA or tube amp & has a massive ass end. But am getting it to the ballpark I'm searching for.
I think I can eq it to what I'm after.
In saying this, I'm after a nice 'vintage' type tone. I generally like a 'clean tube' type tone. Overdrive- well, it's nice to have there if u want it, but generally I've used a clean tube amp.
The WA does this superbly. The STL-does it differently, still nice, but I've just gotta spend more time with it me thinks

I know this'll sound like a repeat of what many have said, but I'm always So impressed with the Mesa WA amp, & just as much so with the Scout cab that goes with it.
The amp is SO 'vintage tube amp' sounding, it's staggering!
A lovely warm, round sound, with the ability to be able to dial in some quite sweet overdrive if one so desires.
Add to this a wonderful semi-parametric eq & wow!!! Simply sweeter than sugar.
Then there's the Scout cab, with its passive radiator pointing downward. This cab has to be one of the best sounding 1x12"s around.
I know that it seems to project incredibly well. I use a Bergantino AE112-which I also love, IT sounds great too, but the Scout cab just has this.....something that sets it apart.
I often use the WA combo by itself-it's the 8 ohm cab & therefore the amp gives it 165w-but it always impresses me & the audience. It just seems to fill the area it needs to well.

Had an interesting issue with my rig last night. Ran the WA into two 4 ohm Wizzy M-lines, which is something I do occasionally for a little head room. I set up my tuner in the effects send, which is something I just started doing. No cable into the return. I just switched the loop on for tuning between sets and that's all I use it for. I have a black lettered WA with the bypass switch done (by MB) as a mod a few years ago.
First song in, everything suddenly drops for a second, then comes back, drops a few more times, and then the rig settles in for the night. No more problems.
Fortunately, the best amp guy in San Jose is in the audience (Mesa Boogie authorized service, etc), and he thinks that perhaps the switch might be faulty. He advised just to jump the effects loop (like so many others have done). I did, and no problems thereafter.
Anyone else ever had any of these kinda issues with a WA with the bypass switch installed?
FWIW ran the amp at 2ohms for a 3 hour outdoor show. Head got slightly warm (no more so than normal), but no other load related issues at all.

Not with the switch no, but, I did lose signal one night before having that mod done to a unit that didn't have it.
I remember somewhere in this MASSIVE thread there was mention of a new Mesa bass amp coming out. Is that true? Can I get a quick and dirty description on it

I don't like the Walkabout paired with any of the LF-type drivers. Not enough power, IMO.
