Mesa Boogie Walkabout Part 5!!!

I'm always surprised at the number of gigs I can cover with a Walkabout in the Scout 12 cab. I've used the WA with a PH212 and that works great, but most of the time the Scout cab is more than enough. But then really loud ain't our thing. And obviously a single cab rig is a good thing on load in/out.

Dan

You know, I definitely think a Scout could handle a bunch of my gigs.

Sounds like a good plan, especially if you like the sweet look of an all Mesa stack :-)

I sure would like to find a Scout 15 to use as an extension cab for more bass, but they don't crop up often. I'm using two Scout 12s currently. I found this Craiglisting for a beat up 1x15 cab with an EVM 15L speaker: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], but reviews suggest that this speaker won't produce a lot of lows.

Would it make any sense to buy this beater cab and put a better speaker in it? Or what might you recommend as a second choice to adding Scout 15?

My Scout 12 arrived last night while I was at my gig. Can't wait to take it for a spin at my gig next Tuesday. I mounted the WA in last night. If I like it, I may look to get an ext cab for added flexibility.

I'm going to start using mine as a head. The cabinet is too heavy to lug around, but it sounds so awesome I don't want to give it up. Since I'm playing small venues, I'll run it with a Genz-Benz 10T box (16 lb, 8 ohm). I'll probably get a second one for a 4 ohm load. This may spell the end of my G-B Shuttle 3.0-10T mini stack.:D

I am coming to realize that I would love to keep my Scout12 combo as one rig and have a Walkabout head to use with other cabs. The Walkabout in the Mesa factory headcase is just too cool for school!

My choice would be a nice 4 Ohm 212.

Thanks, lomo -- your posts are always helpful. Last week I made a trade with TB'er fourfinger, who wanted to get out of loud bands and into more acoustic music. He and I swapped stacks: he now has my Walkabout with two 12 Scout 8ohm cabs, and I have his 600W Venture 2x10 combo plus a PH115 extension. The Venture is heavy as heck, but it has super headroom for this very loud band I'm in.

This Fall I plan to sell off three Ampeg combos I'm not using and put the money into another Walkabout. Might need to sell an old Kay upright bass also to cover the cost, but eventually I'll have this Venture mega-rig plus a little Walkabout for easy toting/reasonable volume.

Hey guys I'm trying to figure out whether my walkabout scout combo is screwed up or if it's just the low end resonating with the cab thats making it rattle a little. When i push the amp a little in seems like its distorting but I can't really tell if there is a problem. When I'm playing in my band i don't notice a thing and as you all know the amp sounds incredible, only when i play by myself do I ever notice/hear this "noise" Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance!

+1 on a good 4 ohm 2x12, (GB Uber 212 for me), and an fyi, the Scout is the cab. So a Walkabout refers to the amp, Walkabout Scout is the combo. Also, going to add an M3 Carbine 12" combo to my rig, (8 ohm version), to have a dual 300 watt Mesa 4x12. WA with Uber 212, M3 with PH 12 combo and Aguilar 12. I'll report back when it's all together, with pics.

That's normal--if you have the 4 ohm cab (as most do, including me), it can't handle all 300 watts of the Walkabout head. It's a great combo, but there are limitations. You could either get a second Scout cab underneath or a different cab entirely. The WA seems to play well with a variety of cabs.
