Mesa Boogie Walkabout Part 5!!!

Mesa offers the amp as an 8 ohm version, for use with an ext cab. It's all right on their site. Yes, the amp will run @ 2 ohms, but it also *could* get hot.
FYI either the combo or the ext cab can be ordered in 8 Ohm, and 8 Ohm speakers are about 129 from mesa.
I tried out my Walkabout + 2x Genz-Benz 10T cabinets in my living room this afternoon. What a treat! Now I have a 300-watt, 2x10 rig that weighs 13+16+16 lb. Technology has caught up with my aging back.

2 gigs now with the Walkabout Scout 12. My only complaint is I find carrying it pretty awkward with that single top handle. Considering my surgically repaired neck, I'm a little tempted to order a Scout 12 cab and sit the head on top in the matching case. I have visions of this in one of those cool brown with the tweed finishes. 
I it is a little awkward with the power chord too.
Now, the sound is pure bliss. The tone of the Walkabout Scout 12 and my Sadowsky PJ are just perfect. It is what I was hearing in my head. I'm so thrilled with this combination.

I personally loooooove the headcase; do it!
It makes it easier to use with other cabs too, like your two GK's....which I still haven't gigged...
If the Walkabout has suitable headroom for your uses, it's really hard to beat.

I agree schlepping, lifting, carrying the Walkabout Scout is really awkward. I wind up picking up the whole thing with both arms around it. Less convenient, but easier.
FINALLY picked up a walkabout (a few weeks ago, its a late post! lol ) Got it used from a member here. Blackface, great condition.
Honestly the sound wasn't what i expected. I guess i always associated "vintage tube" and mid scooped, or something like my old traynor head.
However, after a few band practices and living room stuff, i found its a swiss army knife really. It seems to start off pretty sparkly when flat (Mesas usual sound) but if you bump the gain, cut the mids and treble out you have that old school thumpy mid scooped thing i was looking for!
I still cant figure out how to use that EQ section haha I try to play around with it and i always just go back to flat, mid scoop... Or with a VT bass pedal infront of it.
Great head, nice addition to my Traynor YBA 200-2, it just needs some more dirt!

Flat on the passive mid seems to be about 10 oclock. You'd have to dig back thru the megathreads to find who scoped it and see for sure.

Depends on the cab IMO. With the bit of scoop in the Walkabout 112 (to my ear... lots of room between the top of the driver response and the tweeter kicking in, at least prior to the models with the switchable crossover), I too ran the mids at neutral/noon, with a slight cut to the treble control (which is really more of an upper mid control on that amp). With other cabs, that 10 or 11 o'clock mid setting seemed to sound more balanced to me.
I went live with my WA/G-B 2x10T rig last night, playing in a lineup that included a rhythm guitarist/vocalist playing electric, a loud drummer, and a lead guitar player using my 250 watt Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight. I had my AV '57 P plugged into the Mesa/Boogie. It turned out to be exactly what I wanted: easy to transport, loud, with versatile EQ. It took a couple of songs to dial in the tone (and get it loud enough that the drummer was satisfied) but in the end, the Master was set at 9:00 o'clock! Damn, I love that setup. We played 3 hours, and Walkabout never missed a beat.

Me neither. Bright isn't something I think of when using my WA.
Nor do I think it's ANYWHERE near like the GB STL amps. Nowhere near imo. But everyone's views are different.

I've gigged both heads quite a bit. They sound way different, even though they are the only two hybrids that in any way (IMO) sound like they have an all tube signal path. In that way they are similar.
The Streamliner, of course, will bury the Walkabout volume-wise (many times over). it is much deeper down low, much more glassy up top (really cops that 'all tube treble' response like a Sadowsky SA200 or an SVT run REALLY low and clean).
The Walkabout is much brighter (bright meaning that upper midrange brightness and a bit of distortion that is baked into that amp to my ears. It is also big down low, but that can lead to a bit of looseness due to the relatively low power. The DI is a bit funky on this amp... no way to run it pre EQ.
Where the Shuttle is big and clean and pure and wide, with that very pure 'studio pure' top end, the Walkabout will always growl and grunt a bit (which is somewhat of a Mesa trade=mark) and is more upper mid present/bright up top.
Both are miracles of engineering IMO. Just like every all tube amp sounds quite different, these are quite different takes on an amazingly realistic tone and feel that brings to mind an all-tube signal chain.
+1 though... the Streamliner is in no way the much sought after 'more powerful Walkabout'. It is its own thing, and a bit closer in tone to the MPulse600 (another great 'all tube emulation amp) than the Walkabout.
