Mesa Boogie Walkabout Part 5!!!

Man, for giggles I set up my Ashdown head running through my LDS 610 (my old rig for several years) in my spare bedroom as a "bedroom practice" rig, haha. While the volume is absolutely insane for home practice, I was really amazed how much the Ashdown lacked in tone compared to the Walkabout. I remember thinking the Ashdown was so "tubey" when I switched from my older GK 2001RB rig, but now I don't think I could ever go back after getting used to the Walkabout. It's in another league entirely.

Maybe I've just gotten the wrong impression, but it seems to me that a mjority of people who want to move to something beefier than one 12' speaker tend to go with another multi-driver cab instead of just adding another 12" scout. Any thoughts on why or comparisons between the two paths?

In my case, I'm looking for a single cab solution that will mate with both my WA and my M6.

FWIW, I currently have a Scout cab and extension. It sounds great, just looking for a single cab.

I think 2x15 is great.

Has anybody had the chance to try out their Walkabout with a Bergantino HT-112ER or AE-112.. I was thinking of using the amp with just a 1x12 cab.. I love the Scout amp, but it can be a pain in the arse when your setting up with the D.I. and effects loop towards the bottom of the amp..

I have, and it works great with both. The HT112ER is just huge in the low end, more smooth, and a tad scooped in the mids. The AE112 punches from top to bottom, and is fairly even in its response. Both go well with the WalkAbout, IME/IMHO, but I somewhat prefer the AE112.

I'll add another vote for 2 15"s

The Bergantino NV215 sounds ABSOLUTELY AMAZING with the Walkabout. Tubey, vintage-y, & LOUD!!!!!!!!!!
NV215 by itself. Aint got a pic with the WA on top- will remedy this ASAP tho

How many crocodiles did they have to skin for those cabs?

Those reptiles all died of natural causes and willfully donated their organs to the groove (dons serious poker face). The tolex beasts, on the other hand, are farmed.

Seriously though, it's "alligator embossed leather", and they offer other embossed leathers in ostrich and lizard as well.

Mine is dead quiet with the EQ reasonably flat; if I pin the treble, you will hear some hiss
Amazingly, the fan on mine is very quiet

Was pushing mine pretty good through the standard rehearsal rig with 2x15 w/ Altec 421's and was thinking that it was slightly more "hairy" around the attack of each note and that maybe my used tubes are allowing for slightly more distortion as they get older; band mates said not to change a thing; it might be slightly distorted (which is not my thing) but the way the bass sits in the mix is perfect

FWIW, I've played with this same guitarist on and off for over 25 years and he admitidly has never felt the need to gush over bass tone nearly as much as with the WA.
Previous heads were from Ampeg (3 Pro), Acoustic, SWR, Trace, Yamaha and SVP pre / power rigs.

Gotta agree with BOTH your posts on the last couple of pages Jim. re the 8-11 oclock similar sounds. I usually set it around 12-GAIN & adjust volume = beautiful.
Though, AT 12 oclock, I find just a li'l bit of fur arriving on the scene- sorta like a short haired pointer.
Turn up the gain & eventually ya get an Old English Sheepdog :D

& a WA into 2x 15"s is just wonderful.

Like you, I've been playing with same ppl for a LOTTA years too & as I'm next to the keys player in one band- he ALWAYS gushes over the WA > NV215 rig's sound more than ANY other rig.

"Can't get better'n that" were his words :smug:

Use mine with a AE112 & an AE212 regularly. I like the AE112 best. Great with both tho.

Can you guys do me a favor and post your eq settings for the Walkabout combo playing a J type bass for a blues/rock gig? When I had my old Walkabout through my NeoX212T I left everything pretty much flat but boosted lows a tad and cut highs. Right now with the Scout combo and Scout extension it's feeling a little boomy and middy so I cut the bass a little bit but then it seems thin, cut the mids a bit and we're back to boom town. Any suggestions?

They really should stop wasting so much metal on these amps and only allow for this much adjustment:

I use this with a 1x15, 2x15, or HT322

Quasi Para - be able to pull 50Hz up to 6 dB (thanks Chef)
Bass = 10:00 to 1:00
Mid = from 9:00 to 12:00
Treble = to taste
Input from 9:00 to 12:00
Master - fit the gig
Dont really need all the other adjustments and knobs :cool:
