Mesa Boogie Walkabout Part 6

Yes, the 50-60hz cut does get you incremental head room back, and, help "keep it tight."
Boosting 120-250 puts some of that fat back, shelving bass can be used for that too.

I typically keep passive mids at about 10-11 oclock.

I tend to run para treble boosted at 4khz, and shelving treble boosted a bit too.

I too am a fan of the 50 hz cut on the WA, especially with the combo cab. But I'm wondering how you might boost anything below 200 to put some fat back if you are using the bass para to cut at 50-60? My para mid only goes down to 200 (it's a blackface) - do earlier WAs have different para eq parameters?

Holy Cats!
That may be one of the best matched three-somes I've ever seen:
Well Done.

Thanks man. I have several of those shots. Check it.

Nice basses!

@Kev:
yeah, you're limited at where you cross b/t those two para bands.
you'll have to boost at 200, or, try trimming shelving bass and boosting at 120.

I saw a for sale ad where a Walkabout was specified as a "Red Face".
I used to have a walkabout 7 years ago but traded it quickly for a Moon JB5 bass( not that I didn't like the Mesa) Have there been any significant changes made to the design since then that i should be aware of if I buy another one?

hey guys i was wondering if any of you can compare the walkabout 12's to the powerhouse 12's? right now my rig is 2 8ohm powerhouse 12's and a big block750 but i might be considering getting rid of the big block because i am playing a lot more smaller shows now days.

Well I got my Mesa stuff home and I've had a couple hours to try different settings. Man this walkabout is a tone monster. My go to bass is a MM4 w/DP126's. Between the eq'ing on the head. The crossover switch for the horn and horn volume control. And the eq'ing on the bass. I've found some super sweet tones outta this thing. I've only tried it out with the one cab so far. What really impresses me is how this thing reacts to slight eq'ing changes on just the bass it's self. I see my self getting rid of the two volume pots and going with one volume and a blend. I've had a lot of bass rigs over time. But this one is by far over the top. The two cabs and head cab are in as new condition. It makes a sharp looking min stack.
Thanks to all of you who have praised the Walkabout Scout and have shared your thoughts and expertise regarding them. And thanks to Sevenorchids. A great guy to deal with. :hyper::bassist::bassist::bassist:

Hey guys,

I've run into an issue with my Walkabout Scout 12 today. I heard a faint buzzing coming from the tweeter. I unplugged the power and speaker and it was still there even 15 mintues later. We took the grill off and it was def the tweeter. Turning the tweeter all the way off def it was gone, turn it back up and there it is. Even now, 2 hours later with no power, amp, etc. hooked up it is there until I turn the tweeter all the way off. I assume this is something with the crossover. I don't know what else it could be. Anyone run into this before?

Rob

That is beyond sweet! Love the white cabs. Have you gigged with it? I'm just curious if the white holds up in a gig scenario or gets filthy. Either way, looks like a million dollars!

I think the only changes were due to reliability issues of the switching jacks used on the instrument input and effects loop return. To address this, Mesa now uses a single input jack and an active/passive toggle (on the front where the active input used to be) and a mini toggle switch on the back above the Effects Loop return jack.

Many Red Face and earlier Silver/Black Face Walkabouts have been updated by Mesa (or others) to include these features.

Most recent Walkabouts have a ventilated cover that was added during the UL Listing process (probably so that the amp complied with the Temperature Test requirements in the UL Standard). Even though a number of people run their Walkabouts at 2 ohms, there don't seem to be overheating issues in actual use.

He says it has the updates (toggles for active/passive and FX bypass) so it should be essentially the same as a new one except it lacks the more ventilated top cover. Still, redface are the oldest vintage so it's probably seen a lot of use.

The extension cab I just received today. The Scout has been gigged and it travels with a cover. So far it only has one ding on the bottom back corner. I'll be sure to carry it by hand when going up and down stairs in the future instead of by cart.

I just played my WalkAbout driving two of Roger Baer's ML-112 cabs. O... M... G...!

This was amazing! These small, efficient cabs work really, really well with the WalkAbout. I think this is the rig I will be taking to my next gig. :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

That's actually my WA. The updates were done by Mesa in Dec of 2011. It has seen a lot of use, but it is in great shape, sounds fantastic and Mesa gave it a clean bill of health. A great amp... I'm starting to doubt my decision to sell it...

I just played a gig just with the walkabout 12 combo holy smokes I don't even need an extension cab .. This thing is freakn sicckk no pa support either...

Wow I didn't think it would be loud enough I was wrong !! Had gain and master around 12 sweet sound..
