Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

Yessir, I believe they are.

Cool Chef and thanks,

I was just noticing that on the M9 position 4 is the big bump and I believe on the M6 the big bump happens on position 5.

I'm hoping the M6 can give me everything the M9 can. From what I've read it should. That would leave the big boy for just the REALLY big stages....which are few and far between.:D

The reliability record of the M6 seems to be better than the M9 correct?

To me, the M6 is the top shelf amp because of it's simplicity. When I was young(er) I loved all the EQ sliders and dials on the Green British amps of the 1980's, but now I prefer a simple set up and the M6 can do ANYTHING you want from SVT grit, to SWR hi-fi, to the unique tone of the M6 itself with simply using the gain, bass/mid/treble knobs.

Not to mention it's louder than I will ever need, but I love knowing the headroom is there.

The Walkabout records better than any other amp in history using the D.I., and for live the M6 is "the one"....

I love my M6 Carbine and agree the simplicity is one of the strong suits. Very fast and easy to dial in a great tone. But I don't understand the comment about getting SVT grit from the M6. maybe I'm missing something? How do you do that?

"M6 over M9; simplicity"
It's real easy to "ignore" the grpahic eq and compressor on the M9; but, I always have them engaged.
GEQ set to trim the lower two bass bands, compressor with both knobs at 9 oclock

Well, maybe more like a hi-fi SVT to be fair. I have the gain at 2 o'clock or more and cut the treble. I also dig in, so that helps.

Either way, I prefer this over an SVT.

I have this exact amp - I love mine, and sad to hear that you have to part with yours.
I paid around $1250 for mine new; is your price shipped? I know it's discontinued, but I'd hate to see you miss out on a sale over the price. I'm not trying to sabotage you, just curious.

I just picked up my fourth M6. No, I don't own four now, but over the years I've had to sell one to pay bills then replace it later. I try to keep two at all times, but not so lucky this time. Yes, still owning one is very cool and I don't take it for granted !

That being said, I have had the fortune of owning M6's from the very early low serial number ones, to the newer 2011 models.

I have found that the newer ones have a rounder, warmer tone, almost like the Walkabout. The early ones were and still are simply amazing ( I mean c'mon, it's an M6 !) but seem to have a glassier tone.

Is this possible, or could it be the tube in each one made each amp sound different ? Like I said, there's no better or worse sounding M6. It's like saying a crappy Ferrari.

I have a Mesa M6 combo that I have been gigging with four the past 8 months. I love this amp so much! However, it has started to make a bad crackling noise off and on when only certain notes are played. I have switched out the preamp tube, but this did nothing. I tried using the head on a different cab and I couldn't duplicate the sound. I also used a different head on the cab and couldn't duplicate the sound. The only time it went away was after fiddling with the power cable going to the cab. It went away for a little, but now it is back. I don't know if it could be a weak solder in the cabinet circuitry or something with the amp. Anyone have any clue?
