Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

Ok, I finished this pedal last week and I am super thrilled with it if I do say so myself.:D

I only wanted to access the mute and two voices so I've got three switches with SUPER BRIGHT LEDs. Who needs an indicator on the front panel of the amp when you've got a white LED that could run solar panels, anyway?

At Saluki's suggestion I added a jack for 9vdc to run the LEDs or a 9v battery.

Jerry- That is sweet! Now go plug into number 2 and 4 and engage them at the same time via the pedal. Boom:bassist:

Getting my M6 this week, guys - trading my YBA-200 for it!

Now, does anybody want to critique my cab choice? I'm looking hard at the GB NeoX 212T - I doubt I'll be able to dime the M6, seeing as the NeoX has only a 600W RMS rating - but it ought to get really loud for a really light setup, no?

...I was formerly looking hard at the Powerhouse 2x10, but the weight turned me off.

What do you think?

Also, Jerry, that pedal is way cool! If I didn't love being pedal-free (after years of toting a board as a guitard), I'd build one.

I have used the M6 with the NeoX-212T, and IME/IMHO, it is an excellent combination. If you've been fairly happy with the NeoX-212T so far, my guess is that you will like this combination! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Thank you for the compliment!

I just found that with the Master being so sensitive that I would end up inadvertantly changing the volume everytime I put the amp in mute. It drove me crazy so this was my fix for that. I probably spent as much as it would have cost to just get the voodooman 3-switch generic pedal but I really wanted a dc power option, bright LEDs and a connecting cable that wasn't hardwired to the pedal. I also had the fun of learning how to build a pedal from scratch which was great for the personal knowledge bank.

And yes Saluki, I did get to run voices 2 and 4 together for a whole new level of fun. I am just so pleased with this amp.

I have played the M6 into a GB Neox212 and it sounded great!

The only thing i didn't like about the M6 and M9 is that the Mute is on the Master Volume knob... If you are playing a moderate level just a slight move on the master VOL can take you to extreme volume fast.. And if you are not careful when taking the amp out of MUTE mode can disturb that VOL setting.. Just a PITA to me and my experience with those amps.. But they do sound real nice IMO.

Yeah..but no one that gigs tons and tons wants to carry a foot pedal around.. to the occasional player it may not matter though. Im with you Chef.. I hate Pedals..

All it would take is a simple MOD if people wanted to do it... Its only a DPDT switch to the back of the Vol Pot.. Just get a DPDT mini, remove wires from VOL switch and place onto new switch mounted on faceplate.. Done.. If i owned an M6-M9 now that is what i would do.. It may cancel your warranty though...
I had an M6 for a while on permanent Loan we should say.. But you would have to drill a small hole in the amps face.. Even a beginner could do it... Just be sure you get all the metal filing outs of the chassis..
Otherwise the M series are really fantastic sounding amps IMO.. And I like the way they look.

yip, I own one. I alway use #2,#4, and mute. I don't alway engage 2 and 4 at the same time, but that setting is really one that is awesome to my ears.
i bet that would work on the M9 too...?!?
Actually, the M9 doesn't have the voice jacks on the back, so you can't do the simultaneous thing on it. I'd personally never ever need that, but it's important to note if you're choosing between the 6 and 9 and that's something you really want.

I need to try that 2+4 thing......is there a voodooman pedal that does that and mute?

Here ya go...

This is the one that Saluki has. Keep in mind that voodooman has been a little difficult to work with in the past. I dealt with the sales manager and he seemed like a great guy to deal with.

I've used a pedal tuner for years and it hasn't caused a lot of pedal grief. Boss TU2 -> Korg Pitchblack -> Turbo Tuner, so carrying the mute pedal is not a big deal. And it fits right into the back of the rack case in it's own little Canadian Club bag.;)

But just to test out the 2 + 4 voice thing you could get a couple of toggle switches and an old instrument cable. Cut the cable in half and wire each toggle switch with one side to the tip and one side to the sleeve.

Several pages back I guy mounted a toggle switch on a blank panel in the rack case for the mute. Kinda cool idea but the front panel won't indicate whether the mute is on or not. I wouldn't drill holes in the faceplate.

Thanks Jerry that is the one.

That's been my practice rig for years and I've NEVER gotten anywhere near 10:00 on the master... you'll be fine and it will sound great :)
