Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

In answer to Jerry's post I'll respond by saying I have paired my M6 with a single PH212 for small to medium venues and added a second PH212 for large indoor and all outdoor vunues and it just kills. In a closed indoor setting the definition and punch out of the single PH212 just seems to fill the whole room and beats any (2) 1x12 combination I've ever used.

Would any of those single button Voodooman footswitches work for the M6 mute function?

This one looks like it would work. It's not really a bad price when you figure the box alone would cost around $12. And at least there is an LED to let you know if the switch is on or off. You will need an instrument cable to connect from the pedal to the jack in the back of the amp.

And it appears that they have a few in stock. If it says "1" then most likely there is none in stock.

Very cool, that is the one I was looking at. thanks Jerry!

This is my current rig and it slays. I've used a M-Pulse 600 for the past couple of years and could never get it to sit on the mix like I want.

The Carbine does...

Ok, I finished this pedal last week and I am super thrilled with it if I do say so myself.:D

I only wanted to access the mute and two voices so I've got three switches with SUPER BRIGHT LEDs. Who needs an indicator on the front panel of the amp when you've got a white LED that could run solar panels, anyway?

At Saluki's suggestion I added a jack for 9vdc to run the LEDs or a 9v battery.

That's pretty freakin' sweet there, Jerry.

+1

Have you dug into voice 5?

Yes... I actually like voice 5 the best for performing with my roots rock band. I have found that the voice do not translate to a progressive mid bump (4-5) or scoop (1-2) depending the direction you're going. They each seem to be a unique voicing. Almost like a different type of amp with each... Voice 2 reminds me of Eden or SWR, 3 sounds more Mesa and I'm not sure about voices 3 and 4... maybe Ampeg?

Thank you Bart. It actually came out much better than I had originally thought it would. And it's nice not to have to futz around with a battery if I don't need to.

As far as the comments on the voicings: That is a REALLY interesting take on the various tones. I had never thought of it in that way. But man I think that is a great way to think about it.

At first I was a bit put off with voice #3 as it just seemed that the volume took a big jump. But I thought about it a bit I realized that when you add mids to any tone you should get a perceived volume increase due to the cutting power of the those mids. So if you are getting buried in a thick mix this may be a quick and dirty way to sneak back into the mix. NICE!

I see that Voodooman makes a full function footswitch for these. I feel like I shouldn't pass that up seeing as I could not make one on my own.

Yes that is a really nice switch box. I've seen their stuff in person and it appeared to be first class.

But one recommendation is that you call them and confirm that they have one actually already built. They have had a bad reputation for a reasonable delivery time in the past. You might want to check some of the feedback on line. I did speak with the sales manager several months back and he seemed like a really super guy.

I recently used Voice 5 on my M9 with a RW Jazz freshly strung with Rotosound Swing Bass 66 strings. Perversely I massively rolled off the top 3 bands, half cut 900 hz, and made a "smilie" of 33-600hz, with 33hz being a bit taller than the others...

OMG.  :hyper: :bassist: :D

Roots AND stems and seeds and even stumps, STUMPS, I SAY! :D

Thanks again Jerry!

Looks like I'm picking up an M6 tomorrow!

Stroke of luck, actually. I've been looking to sell my motorcycle (Honda) and my guitarist decided he wanted to buy it (never mentioned it to him because his father and brother are die-hard patriots and Harley riders). Well, rather than buying it from me outright, he has a Guitar Center credit card :D. He is buying the amp for me and using it as payment for the bike. Awesome.

Congrats! I am just so happy with my M6.

Guess what?

Just got it home tonight so I haven't gotten to play it yet (cabinet is at the studio). This is the floor model from GC, anything I should check? I don't think preamp tubes wear out, should I check/change it anyhow? I did get the original cord for it and they even threw in a 6ft speakon cable. I've never used one before, it is labeled Gallien-Krueger. As far as all that 1-, 1+ crap, there are no other markings on it whatsoever, how do I use this thing? I'm so pumped to get this thing hooked up and thumpin!

No need to change the preamp tube. They last decades, and the M6 isn't particularly responsive to tube rolling.
If it's noisy, hissy, popping, yeah...otherwise, don't bother!
