Yessir, nuttin' but empathy from me for you on that. I very much like the idea of have a little more bottom end control.

On my volume pot: odd that it needed cleaned, but nice that it fixed it. Might not have nedded cleaned, but needed a bit of dirt cleaned out: different than oxidised wipers, ya know? Also, the master volume pot (and several others in there) are multi-lugged affairs, with several wires going to them. One has to be careful not to heat those too dang much when making all the attachments. it is possible to damage them with too much heat.

So I'm unhappy with my Thunderfunk 420 into Berg HT112 / EX112 set up. It gets lost in the mix. Not sure if its the head / cabs or both.

Read all the reviews/threads on the M6. I also see a number of you have the Berg AE410. Can anyone comment on the M6 / AE410 setup? Can anyone contrast that with a Shuttlemax 6 or 12 / AE410 setup?

Thanks much. I'll be going out to audition each of these but I will never find a shop where I can try them side by side.

CAn't comment on your cabs, but I've had a TFB420, and still have a 550.
The M6 has both more low and top end. Shinier, deeper, and more aggresive. Waaaay more headroom.
The M6 rawks an AE410.

can't comment on the genz stuff.

Is it as fast. To me the thunderfunk is a very fast amp. Also it gets alot of bottom and highs. How much more than the M6? Is it needed? I like it with the AE410. But I have the one with the newer 750A pre in it. Can't remember if it had the same amounts of highs and lows. My best friend has a m6 and he swears by it. I might be selling the TF as I may need repairs in the future (if it ever broke down) and I think Im out of being one of Dave's favorites.

that's ok Charlie.. im not in daves favor anymore... i spilled too many of the BS beans..

I think that the M6 is a fast amp. faster than most self contained amps.. faster than the Tfunk? if not as fast at least very very close...the M6 is very good. automatic organic punchy sound.
.. It is still much different but in a good say.. they things that you said that you wished the Tfunk would do but didd not.Well the m6 does it.. and i would go out on a limb and say that the new M9 wlll do it in heaps.more .
In fact My friend has an M9 coming on Monday.. I am going to go to his house and try it out for fun...
The one thing that i dont like about the M6 or Mesa bass amps is that the cover screws become stripped out easily or loose... If you remove the cover more than once, the screws dont grip anymore. I am going to let the AR folks at Mesa know what is happening on this.. Im sure they know .at this point though.

Hey Kirk! Would you say that the M6 is similar sounding to the solid state half of a mesa M2000? I've been wanting to try one of those M6's, but not if it sounds the same as the amp I already have. My M2000 sounds amazing through that Bag End cabinet I bought off you!

Levi

Levi, Hi how are you?? Im glad you dig that Bag end.. That was my favorite cab of all time... Im glad that it found a great home...I need to go through the stuff in my garage and find that port cover for you..... you have my number, if not PM me and i will send it to you..

I have only tried the M2000 in a guitar center showroom. I have never gigged with it or really spent any time with the M2000, So i really can not give any sort of input worth anything...

I am pretty sure that Kjung on the forum had a M2000 and gigged it alot a few years ago if memory serves me. You may want to send Kjung a PM..

I did have an Mpulse600 a few years ago, and i think the M6 is not only tighter but Louder than the Mpulse... the M pulse seemed more like a tube amp but broke up early on, where the M6 stays clean up to the point of knocking your sox off...
Not that you cant get some grind from the M6 becasue i found that i can, but the amp itself stays clean and punchy with articulation even to very loud where the mpulse would start to roll over and growl.
The M 6 that i have is a loaner for eval and I just not given it back yet. I have been playing my GB heads on every gig for a while now and enjoying the juice.

Thanks Kirk! And Neil! I really enjoy my M2000, as it is such a versatile head. But...that's the problem, it's too versatile for me. I'm more of a "set it and forget it" type guy and that head just gives me too many options. I bought my M2000 new when it first came out, gigged it for about 6 months, and then quit playing for 12 years due to an injury. Now having gotten back in the saddle and with my new bands first gig approaching I am finding myself a bit overwhelmed and wanting to get something a bit more simple. That M6 might just be the ticket! I'll have to see if I can find one in a music store to try out around here.

Kirk, you didn't move back to New York did you? I hope you are just visiting, I haven't even gotten a chance to see you play yet? If you are still local, do you have a gig coming up any time soon? We'll have to see if we can work out a time for me to come to your neck of the woods and pick up that port cover. I'll probably never use it 'cuz that cab is ballsy the way it is, but it might be nice to have.

nope im still in the house you came to pickup the bagend. I will have to get yo my schedule.
I have a busy week coming up...
I am going to go out on a limb here... like i sad i never gigged a M2000.. but if you like the SS side of the amp. there may be a good shot that you would love the M6... I have heard some folks say the M6 sound like an all SS amp..I dont know if i would go that far... it has a tube vibe .but a clean tube vibe not a grindy type...
its round sounding.. it can be very bright too though certain cabs... it is not muddy at all...it is clean and articulate right up to where its loud... haha
i dont want to derail so im staying on topic here..

The guy I sold my M6 to bought it to replace an M2000, if I remember correctly. His username here is Jordan---maybe he'll weigh in here, but if not, send him a PM to get his thoughts on how they compare.

In hindsight, I should have hung onto my M6.:hmm: The amp I bought to replace it is definitely no slouch, but it's a whole new sound for me compared to what I had with the M6.

In a perfect world, I'd have both the M6 (or the M9, seeing as how it's so reasonably priced) and my DB750. But, I'd also be looking for a new home if I did that......................

It was 2 ohm week here in the Chef-Kitchen proving grounds.

I had three jobs; one small one where the M6 and two LDS 2x8 line array was nothing but massive overkill, and two bigger jobs where it was just what was needed...and a couple rehearsals.

The M6 handled it all with aplomb. For the smaller job, I had to run the input down to about 10 o'clock...for the two bigger jobs I set input at one o'clock; that's where I prefer it. It delivers a little more heft and harmonic content there, but you really can't run the master more than about 9;30 o'clock without killing small animals.

Never ran warm, sounded great, and as I noted earlier, the sound guy at the one place I played where bass went to FOH really liked the DI.

So, two ohm proving week was a non-issue. I brought my wt800b so I could hang an LDS 2x8 off each side if the M6 didn't behave, but, it did.

Post. I personally prefer post...I spend considerable time and thought to get my tone. I'd just as soon it got sent to the board that way.
Typically, I don't eq very much anyway.

I did give him a choice. He preferred the post signal; and this has typically held true.
Other junk I use:
Walkabout, TFB550b, WT800B. I always send post first, and the strip it to pre if asked to and given a good reason;)

Lastly, let me add that tho I mostly run my eq flat, or nearly flat, that doen't mean that post is the same is pre-eq.
Each of those preamps has thier own character and adds it's own personality, even if you're not tweaking the knobs a lot.
