I'm finding that it is almost impossible to coax a bad sound out of this amp. It just delivers the goods all across the board. The tonal changes you get from the gain settings and the postion of the bass knob (since that seems to change the overall tonal character, and not just the bass level) do add some complexity to finding "the" sound, but I'm not so worried since there are so many good sounds.
That's not surprising to hear about the Carbine, it has been my experience with most Mesa heads that I have played through. Although their EQ did take me a little time to get the feel of it.
