Mesa Subway Bass DI Preamp

Have any of you Subway preamp users tried it with Darkglass pedals, I'm thinking to buy it and just curious how it goes with the B3K and how the tone compares to other preamps on the market(like Tone Hammer what I currently use).

I haven't posted in a while, but I did get my Subway DI and got it mounted on the lower section of my pedalboard. I have it plugged into the Joyo PXL-PRO, and currently have it sounding differently than the D-800 amp, the Alien Audio DI, and the Mesa Flux-Five. I truly love the different tones of the all the units, but am currently leaning toward just the Subway DI, the Flux-Five, my compressor, tuner, and a smaller pedalboard. We are in the process of removing amps/cabs and running directly to the house; doing that I won't be using the D-800 and need a more consistent tone....so it may be time to start custom pedalboard #7...:whistle::facepalm::blackeye::bag::help:

Yes, I have been meaning to post on this subject. I have a B3K and a VMT right before my Subway Preamp. The preamp, to my ears, overpowers the Darkglass pedals that are placed before it. I hear more Mesa than Darkglass. I am going to place the pedals after the preamp to see if that makes a difference. I was actually going to try it tonight (if I can get off TB lol).

I wish the Preamp had a stomp switch. I think the lack of is a design flaw IMO. Regardless of the design intention I like to be able to turn my effects on and off. At the very least it makes it much easier to dial-in and blend tones with other pedals. When I get a new pedal on my board I want to dial it in on its own. Not in conjunction with another pedal that is always on. Sorry for the mini-rant.

The furry pedal is the one I call my Personlized Chewbacca Wookie Fuzz, but it is actually a custom Redman All-Star Fuzz, that I actually "furred-up".
Thanks for the likes on the pedalboard....I have a terrible habit of building ever changing custom pedalboards and cases for me only.

So you mean you dont really like the Mesa tone, or just prefer to hear more Darkglass in your overall sound? I usually keep the blend at 12 o'clock on my B3K and at 2-3 o'clock if I want more Darklass tone.

I really like the Mesa tone but I just dont always want my effects to sound like a "so and so going through a Mesa". Sometimes I want to just hear the uncolored solo tone of a certain effect such as my B3K. I thought about putting the Mesa through a looper pedal.

This may be a silly question but my setup as it stands now is Bass>Korg Pitchblack>Idiotbox Blowerbox>Mesa Subway di preamp pedal which goes from 1/4" line out into my aux input of my Traynor SB115. Sounds great and love it but want more headroom but my question is I was wondering if I bought another SB115 would I be able to use 1/4" out to one SB115 and use the preamp out to the other using an XLR by 1/4" cable to the other combo amp via aux in. Reason I'm asking about the second SB115 is there is no extension cab out of this combo and figured adding a second would give me 2X15 with 400 watts total 500 watts burst power. Thanks and I hope it makes sense of what I'm trying to do lol. @agedhorse

How does this sound with a drive pedal pushing the front of it? And how usable are the frequencies that the low-mid and high-mid are tuned to? Not really digging the sounds from my vt bass di, and this looks interesting. Anyone used one of these and not like it?

Only my second rehearsal with the Subway last night (or rather a few hours of fooling around and trying to get some recording equipment set up). Coming from the VT Bass DI this is of course a completely different animal, but man, in a good way! Having plenty of good clean oomph is kinda a new thing for me, and I think I like it. Seems to record very well, too.

Got around to rearranging my board, too. The VT got demoted to dirt pedal status, still have to experiment with that. (No, the place isn't a mess, it just has history.)

How do you find the subway compared to the vt di? I'm not really digging the baked in tone of mine anymore, and the separate low mid and hid mid controls of the subway look incredibly useful.
