Mesa Subway D-350!

chickenheads can go right next to one another if you break from current. It's not like Mesa was hooked on the numbered knobs of yore.
Chicken heads are something we did use on a few products, but they don't save all that much space (if any). Actually, now that I look at it, with the beak and tail clearance at 9:00 and 3:00 they take up significantly more space, so that idea won't "fly".

Chicken head was my mistake. I was thinking of the truncated beak and tail kind.

The truncated knobs are a better approach, but that saves about 1/8" per knob pair.
 
Smaller jazz bass knobs like you use? There's another I have to look up...

But if getting down to knob selection, that's a good sign.
