The Mesa tote bag for the Walkabout is real handy iff'n yer gonna use it sans combo-cab. Small, durable, got a pocket for power/speaker/instrument cables. A bargain at ~$30...I'll snap a pic after a bit.

Hello boys and girls!! I Finally had the chance to try out a scout 112 combo and I dug it a lot!! same tone league as my ashdown, about the same volume (ABM400), made in USA, lightweight, really nice!!!
I loved the variety of tones you can get with the para eq!! and the tube OD was just uber nice!!!

Hello! I've got a scout 12" combo and would like to add an extension cab. I am considering either a Berg HT112 or EX112 or a Bag End sd-15. I'd like some help deciding between the Berg and Bag End. Also If Berg is the way to go should I start with a HT112, I may want to use it alone with the Walkabout head? Thanks for any input you may have.
I gigged for a couple years with a Scout 1x12 Walkabout Combo with a Bergie EX112 underneath it. it presents a 2.67 ohm load to the Walkabout and it handled that load without skipping a beat. No issues Ever! I used to get great compliments on my sound. So it will work famously. And while the Scout doesn't 'quite' match up physically to the Berg EX112, the feet on the Scout still sat on top just fine and I never had an issue. It was one of those quirky franken-rigs that was really, really cool!
The HT112 would work fine. I owned both the HT112 and EX112 and chose to use the EX112 because it was lighter wieght and I didn't feel I needed the extra tweeter to the sound. But you can always dial down the HT112 tweeter if you don't want it. If you do get the HT112, you'll have a cool stand alone cab that you can also use with the Walkabout head, but I'm not sure in that circumstance why you wouldn't just use the Scout combo. With the passive Radiator, I think that Walkabout head and Scout cabinet are a bit fuller and 'slightly' meatier than the Walkabout head and a single Bergantino HT112. (I play 5 string bass. I could get a single HT112 to fart out, but not the Scout combo) Hope that helps! Gary

I promised a snap of the Mesa carry bag for the WA.
Here ya go.
First, the WA on top of a gator bag'd wt800; then the WA in the Mesa bag: quite small!
My only gripe with the Mesa bag is that it ought to be about 2% bigger. It's a tight enough fit that it's more of a chore to bag the lil sicka than it ought to be. The carry pocket easliy holds the power cable, and two big guage speaker cables, instrumentcable, and tuner.
Snaps are kinda dark, despite the flash: black is hard to shoot!
The bag has lil padded foldover flaps to protect the knobs, and then a bigger flap with fastex buckles that goes over all that; nice detachable strap for shoulder carry, and a fixed strap for hand carry.
The WA with the Dr Bass 1260 is a completely sick lil rig btw...

I need something for rehearsals and small gigs, and I also need a backup to my main head should anything happen to it. The WAS seems to tick all the boxes.
If I ever need a little more oomph, I'll probably run it with a home-built 8ohm 12" cab, at least in the short-term. From what I've read, 2.67ohm shouldn't present a problem.
I'm a little puzzled by the reporrts of a noisy fan, and a the lack of a Mute switch and the DI volume issues, but I'll see how I get on with it. I can't wait to hear it.
One thing to note, though... I bought a used model, as - as has been discussed elsewhere - Mesa's European pricing policy is appalling IMO.

I think you're going to love the Walkabout. The fan noise was never an issue with me and only noticeable when playing at home in a small room by myself late at night when there was little ambient noise.
I also had no problem with the D.I. set up. Once I had my stage volume set, I rarely had to change anything. The mute switch--no big deal. 2.67 ohms is no problem with the amp.

I wonder if they've realised just how many sales they're losing through their suicidal UK & European pricing policy, probably not by the arrogance that I encountered when I contacted them about it.

I've actually got it in the boot of my car now. I can't wait to get home and try it. I had a quick try this morning and it sounded beautiful, and looked incredibly well-made.

Put a desposit on one, 1350 euros!! nice price if you ask me! It just arrived in the store three days ago and I can't bring it home because I need the funds from my ashdown selling!!!

BTW, has someone pulled the grille of one of these scouts?? I'd love to have a second grill in marshall cane done by myself to have another look option and I don't want to pay 150 to mesa to have a second grille in tan!

just a thought, but have you considered a shorting style instrument cable? Several makers have them out. I use the Planet Waves version. If you are not familiar, they basically have a little switch built into the instrument end of the cable that cuts the signal from the bass. Quick push, pull it out ... no pops or crackle, plug in the next bass, push the button again .. and away you go.
pretty simple but effective idea IMO.
Oh, and enjoy that Walkabout .. I have sure enjoyed mine the past couple of years. great amp.

A friend moved over from England and formed it and brought his huge record collection. Lonnie Donegan was my hero. None of that music ever got played on radio in Canada. I played washtub bass. Wish I'd had a pickup for it and something like the Walkabout but that was 1956. My friends all thought I was nuts.

Lonnie Donegan and Bert Weedon were arguably two of the most influential people on the emerging guitar scene in the UK at the end of the 50s.
Many budding guitarists started by playing Lonnie's music and Bert Weedon must have made a bomb from his 'Play In A Day' book, although a fromer dance band era guitarist he was the only person available to play on the UKs first R&R recordings.
I once saw a 50s LP of Chris Barbers Jazz Band with Lonnie credited on Banjo.
Oh and back on subject love the Walkabout hate the UK price hike compared to the US.

So far, so good. I'm really enjoying playing with this amp. I might pop the head out and use it though my big cab at my next gig.
As an aside, the fan isn't loud at all. It's really pretty quiet...
I need to tinker with the variable crossover a little more. I'm not quite sure how it affects the sound at the moment...

Picked it up last week from my local music shop. Paid 1400 CAD.
What a GREAT little rig!
I should have done this years ago.
I bought it for use at small jam sessions, parties and gigs... and it's perfect for the job. Loud, light and full of tube tone at any volume. Just perfect. In fact, I can't wait to yank out the head and use it with some of my bergie cabs, It just sounds so darn great. It has reminded me how much I really LOVE tubes.
I will be modifying that stupid fan though
pretty loud to be honest. Way too loud for my liking. I've got a silent computer case fan with isolation mounts on order, and I may install an on/off toggle switch on the back of the chassis while I'm at it.
For me, this is one of those pieces of gear that gets my heart going, like an intense craving. Really makes me want to sit down in my jam space and immerse myself in all it's tubey goodness.
