I've used that exact set up at a few gigs before. I thought it sounded great. I really like the Goliath.

I still play a Fender P through a 15" when needed, and that will always be cool. I think that Mesa gear has that "not quite high-fasion" yet forever cool vibe too.

SWR brought great innovative bass gear to the masses...first before any of the botique stuff came along....
But I would love to hear some of the Schroeder cabs...

I was just being silly. SWR gear rocks and I would agree that it might be considered classis. People use it as a referance all the time, ie. the "SWR" sound, etc. The reason I say that it is "uncool" is because SWR doesn't seem to have the buzz that it once had. It is not the latest and greatest.

Mesa Walkabout
Goliath lll 4 ohm
Sadowsky 5 24 fret with Bassline p/u.
I had no probelm with volume or power and was " more than happy" with the overall result
( according to George Carlin..if you're " more than happy" you're not well )
Plenty of headroom and actually had to turn down..
all controls on the amp where set at 12 oclock.....
I was amazed at the clarity and the power from the B string on a few of the ballads we did.. I had a chance to let a few of the notes sustain and the cab handled these notes w/o any breakup or distortion...I did back off the tweeter...not my favorite sound...
I will bring this set up to my next few shows and try a few different basses... I am curious to hear a Jazz or a P Bass
I also have an Eden WT 550 which I will A/B against the Walkabout..that will be very interesting since I love the way the Eden sounds.....
I have used the Eden with the Goliath and that is another great sounding combination...

Walkabout and AccuGroove Tri 112L mini-review:
Hey, I decided to grab up an AccuGroove Tri 112L from the forsale area, as I've been GAS'n for a cab designed to be real transparent and accurate for a change. I have decent enough basses that I really wanted to hear them this way (tho admittedly, all my amps have their own voicings).
Anyway, I hooked it up to the Walkabout last night. Oh my lord. I could not believe how good it sounded. I'm sure it's the total combo of the bass, the Telefunken tubes, and the AccuGroove, but it was arguably the best sound I'd heard to date.
Mesa Walkabout, just a slight scooping to the EQ, but we're talking like 11:30 in the mids, and 12:30 for lows and highs... just barely.
8 ohm AccuGroove Tri 112L cab, with the mid and high knobs all the way up (this is the "flat" setting on those cabs).
Overall, that warm tubey sweetness was given a great clarity I'd never heard before. Thick, full, and sweet, but not muddy. Like drinking warm pure honey directly from the jar.
Played my MTD 535 (SS rounds), the most "modern" sounding and crystal clear thing I have. Every detail was right there, as if somebody had lifted the vail from the face of a beautiful woman.
Pretty much the same for my Zon Sonus 5 (SS rounds), a bit more towards a traditional Fender J personality, but still modern and extremely clear.
On the Sonus Special fretless (Tomastik Jazz Flats), obviously, it's going to be a different animal without those bright strings, but the detailing was still very much there. I have the treble mostly rolled off on that bass for a more "traditional" sound, which I'm very much into right now on fretless. Anyway, I got just enough detail at the high end for a great moment of attack (note definition), but what followed and blossomed after that was bordering on the supernatural. What depth. Unreal. I really think the tubes played a big role here.
The Roscoe LG-3005 (SS rounds) also came alive with this setup. That tube warmth with the Roscoe's thick and explosive low end was nothing short of a force to be reckoned with. I found myself actually backing off a bit especially on the B, but without sacrificing any dynamics. Means less string buzz at times, which can be good.
The above were the most notable in particular, but I had similar jaw dropping experiences with my Geddy J, Lakland 55-02, Tobias Growler (Nordie custom quad coil pickup installed), and both Cirrus'. Like experiencing them all for the first time all over again.
Bottom line is, I couldn't turn the thing off. I was up until 2am even tho I had to get up this morning at 6:30 and eventually drive an hour to work.
To be honest, I'm not sure whether to tell you folks to try one of these or not... could be EXTREMELY dangerous to the GAS prone, which I figure is most of us here.
I also tried my Eden Time Traveler (older, WT330), and was equally overjoyed, but this is a Mesa thread.

I know this has been mentioned before, but just wanting to check and see if anyone is running their Walkabout at 2 ohms? I've heard that while not adverstized to go to 2 ohms, the Walkabout will play at 2 ohms.
I have a Walkabout head that I really like, and recently took delivery of a Vanilla Bronco (tolex)/Gold Grill Scout 4 ohm cabinet. You can see it on the gear page on my band website:

What a sweet combo. I like it so much, I'd love to get a matching 4 ohm Mesa Extension cabinet. But that would present a 2 ohm load. I just LOVE the look of this vintage colored tolex.

Hey Gary, that IS a SWEET combo! I've got the same thing but without the awesome looking vintage covering. I've been running mine with an EA Wizzy extension (as mentioned in this thread) and had no problems. I wouldn't worry too much because the amp will shut down, not fry, if it gets too hot (which mine hasn't). I'm very happy with the sound of this combo. The only way they could improve the WA Scout would be to take 15 pounds off of it IMO!Roscoe5 said:

I only tried it briefly, but it worked fine and sounded good. I just thought I should ask before I cause any damage. While it's nice that the amp will shut down before frying, I prefer to avoid shutting down in the middle of a gig too.

After some good advice on this board, I finally picked up a Mesa Walkabout Scout. I am in love with this amp. I switched out the tubes for a couple of GT (I know there's better, but they sound a lot better to me). I also switched out the fan, which may controversial, but I decided it was worth a try since the factory fan is so loud. We'll see if I go into shutdown any time soon.
I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the Scout has the same footprint as my EA Cxl 1x12s. The impedances don't match up, but they sound good together.
Anyway. I love it I love it I love. It's my first tubish sound and it's great. I can finally play my bass without worrying all the time about how things sound and if I've got it tweaked right.
