Metal Bands \m/

Last Chance to Reason.

Progressive Death-Metal from Central Maine. The bass playing is definitely defined, and not just your standard issue playing level. One thing that sets these guys apart from most other metal bands is very good melodic singing and shredding keyboards. Qualities that are seriously lacking in modern metal from the last decade. The have a pretty rigorous touring schedule, so its likely they could be playing close to a lot of you folks!

The Contortionist.

Metal from Indianapolis, IN. A lot in the spirits of BTBAM, with more memorable melodic sections and dynamic usage. The bassist Chris Tilley plays much in his own world, while still accompanying the rest of the players in a very tasteful and unique way. It is something that is hard to appreciate the first time through, and as always, the best way to see this is in a live performance.

Son of Aurelius: Technical Death Metal with a hint of Swedish metal influence. The bassist Max Zigman plays 5 and 6 String Fretless and is one hell of a player. You just have to listen to the tunes..

Oh, yeah, I totally have to check those guys out. I heard about them on another forum (The Shizz -- a VGM-centric message board where of course they instantly acquired a lot of fans) and their concept of making a video game and an album as a single synaesthetic piece is the kind of crazy awesome I really dig. Plus, "Temp File" sounds wicked.

Based on your username, though... Are you their bassist, Chris?

Really hope your tour with AAL makes it down south. I'd be bummed to have to miss that. Anyway, Level 2 is a killer album! Gave it a 5/5 on the site I write for. Definitely agree with you on the Contortionist and SOA recs, cool bands.

Whoops, busted..

Didn't think my cover would last long with my username anyways. Yes. I do play for them.
And thank you Cody, the review was definitely killer, we were more than flattered by it!

Really, you didn't need to hide, man -- your band rocks. Although from what I've heard, my favorite part isn't the bass (don't get me wrong, it's good ;) ) but the absolutely crazy harmonies the singer does with his clean vox. Seriously, it's mind-blowing.

Now if I could figure out a way to purchase Level 2 without paying crazy shipping charges to France... Do you guys have an official-ish store?

Thanks man, very kind words, Ill be sure to let my vocalist know, i'm sure he will be very appreciative of your compliment.

As for an online store, the link is here:

Last Chance To Reason: Official Online Store

I am almost positive that the album was released yesterday in Europe and Japan, I'll have to gather some more of that information when I can ;) Hopefully you won't have to pay a lot for shipping and can just get it locally:bassist:

To be more specific, the only release dates/locations are UK/European Release was in fact the 23rd of this month, excluding Germany which is going to be the 28th of this month :ninja:

O

Obscura...German technical death. Added fret less bass on the album Cosmogenesis and it kills, but who knows how long it will stick, they've had more bass players than albums.

Omnispawn...death from Sweden, that's all I know. The album I have is self published.

Omnium Gatherum...from Finland. Genre hopping from death to black to melodic to rock, each album is a major progression from the last, def worth checking out.

Oomph!...fun to say, isn't it?...Oomph! One of the originators and most influential Neue Deutsche Härte bands (a heavily industrial influenced grove based rock/metal) from Germany in the early 90's, progressed through to more rock based song structures over the years. Think a more melodic Rammstein with pop sensibilities.

Opeth...from Stockholm, Sweden, your guess is as good as mine as to what they could be classified as, metal? Folk? Prog? Jazz? I file them under amazing.

Orphaned Land...this Israeli, yes, Israeli band mixes in Arabic melodies to a progressive style that gives a different almost gothic twist to their sound. Somewhere between gothic, doom, and prog these guys are worth a listen or three.

Overkill...if you like metal you should have heard of them by now. Starting in 1985 this New Jersey thrash/speed metal band has put out a new studio album every year or two and toured constantly. And each album has been as aggressive, thrashy, heavy as the last. Bassist D. D. Verni and singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth has been there since the beginning. You cant kill these guys, literally, Ellsworth has survived cancer in '98 and had a stroke on stage on '02 and Overkill is slated to tour Europe this summer.

Deathrow...Super fast 80's thrash from Germany (think early Slayer)

I'm sorry, but you have completely the wrong album for Deathrow. Anything from Deception Ignored, like this: YouTube - ‪Deathrow - Events in Concealment‬‏

I've got a couple more bands to add, all more progressive thrash, that I can't recall seeing in this thread:

Sacrosanct: YouTube - ‪Sacrosanct - Like Preached Directions‬‏

Aspid - Russians who appeared, released a kickass album then disappeared again and have never been heard from again: YouTube - ‪Aspid - Extravasation - 03. Towards One Goal‬‏

Wolf Spider - crazy Poles: YouTube - ‪WOLF SPIDER - - 01 - Blind Faith‬‏

Vektor - I dunno if they've been mentioned, but they're so good they deserve mentioning more than once: YouTube - ‪Vektor - Black Future‬‏

Watchtower - showcasing the demented genius of Ron Jarzombek. Blotted Science was as much his side project as Alex Webster's:

And I really, really hope bands like Kreator, Dark Angel, Heathen have been mentioned. If not, then we've all got something wrong with us.
