Mexican Food

You Cali guys oughta spend some time in New England and get their take on Mexican food. They call it NexMex (New England Mexican), and it mostly sucks.

-Mike

I think I will PASS!!!! :spit:

I have a friend from New Zealand who married a Mexican girl out here. She's really quiet but...they went to a "Mexican" restaurant out in Australia and she got visibly upset at the food. She called the manager over and asked how they could possibly call it "Mexican food?" Said it was completely bland and flavorless...the manager told her that "Australians don't really like too much spice in their food." She was actually disgusted at the restaurant for calling itself "Mexican" :p

I remember going to San Diego in the early 90s to visit the sister-in-law. That was the very first time that I'd ever had fish tacos. I recall thinking that fish tacos sounded pretty disgusting.

Tried some anyway, and was completely blown away by the sheer tastiness.

There doesn't seem to be a whole of places that serve fish tacos around here though. Hopefully I can get some suggestions?:help:

We all love it.

Rather then derail someone else's thread as I've done in the past (sorry!), I figured we could have a nice long discussion of our favorite Mexican restaurants and food.

I'll be going down to the Salem area next month. It's too bad that Hillsboro is so far off my route.:(

I've had birria, it was good. How does birria differ from cabrito? Haven't had nopales; never sounded appetizing to me

had to look up birria! cabrito is roasted. we used to get cabrito tacos from the walk up taco stands in reynosa. but no one goes there anymore. the nopales are good for breakfast, mixed with frijoles refritos, papas fritos, just about anything fritos haha! slather it all in a fresh tortilla de maiz and chomp. :D

Heh, I had to look up cabrito :D Maybe the population in my neighborhood is from a "birria" part of the country, while the population in your neighborhood is from a "Cabrito" part of country
