Cat’s out of the bag
I don't think I'd bank on that yet. Sam Ash is the ONLY place this has shown up. It's not on the DG site, it's not on Sweetwater or MusiciansFriend. Seems kinda questionable.... Especially since Doug said early on that there wouldn't be a X Ultra.

However, things can change.... Doug and DG have always been very receptive to their users wishes and suggestions.

Yeah and only on the lows, which is probably awesome with drive, but for cleans I think a full range comp is better for me personally. Cool pedal demos from TBC and Hunter out today though, sounds good!
I think it actually compresses full range in clean mode, bypassing the low pass knob. How that affects the high pass knob will be interesting

Very cool on the DG X Ultra. I can't say I will be trading out my X7 for one though. I don't see enough upside for what I do or want. What the X7 does IS my clean tone. lol. I am still thinking of getting the VMT for a dirtbox to run in front for when I want to get stupid.

What I do dig about the X Ultra is the extra bands of EQ control (not that I need them), the cab sim (not that I need them as I prefer the straight up direct sound), and that you can have a clean tone impacted by the pedal controls and then distortion as per normal (again, not that I need it). So, lots of cool stuff, just more than I need or want. I'd be spending just to be spending and get nothing notable out of it.

My X7 is still just the absolute best for me.

If I didn't already own the X7, I'd most likely get the X Ultra. ...just because more. Lol.

Correct: clean mode is also full range because the LPF is bypassed along with the dirt circuit. So, the compressor will work full range in clean mode.

Same here. I get almost the same functionality running my X7 into a VMTU. Only thing I'm missing out on is the clean comp, but I've got that covered elsewhere... I could see this being a great core or "always on" solution though, especially for someone who doesn't already have a bunch of DG stuff. If I didn't already have another ultra, I might be considering it for that very purpose.

Now if they ever release something like this with a discreet mid band a la Parallax, I might be more curious...

I could see being intrigued if they ever do a Microtubes X500/X900 amp. ...although I'll admit to not being too interested in having a bass rig. Lol.

Whoa, wait a minute... How about a PARALLAX 900? Obviously, a mid band with its own drive control. But maybe also the ability to adjust and blend cab sims like Parallax, only in the DG suite. It would be a step up from what they currently offer, but I have no doubt they could pull it off...

I think I've gone full TGP with this speculation. I'll show myself out...

An X500 amp would be awesome. Surely the next thing on their list is to extend the range of DSP plugins to cover the AO and X range, then port them over to an amp and pedal with presets in. Mark my words!

@Darkglass - I understand the X7 has a LPF on the DI out to smooth out the treble. Does the X Ultra have the same thing with the cab sim turned off?

Hi! No, the X Ultra has a full range DI Out with the cabsim disengaged.

I had a quick question for you Doug (oh and congrats on the little one - hope you’re getting sleep somehow) - what is the compressor on the X Ultra based on, and does it compress the entire clean signal when in the blue led mode?

Hi thanks, sleeping fine actually!

The X’s compressor is based on the Hyper Luminal’s Bus Mode (which models the SSL Bus compressor side-chain).

And yes, in blue mode the compressor is engaged with the full range clean signal assuming the Distortion is off.

Kind regards,
Doug.
