Microtubes X

Hi thanks, sleeping fine actually!

The X’s compressor is based on the Hyper Luminal’s Bus Mode (which models the SSL Bus compressor side-chain).

And yes, in blue mode the compressor is engaged with the full range clean signal assuming the Distortion is off.

Kind regards,
Doug.

Hi Doug. I recently bought one of your new Vintage Ultra V2's. I keep forgetting to play, it sounds so good :)

Folks, how does the clean side with the full band compressor sound on the Ultra?

Does it switch between dirt and clean nicely when you’ve set up a decent clean tone? I’ve watched the DG demo video but would love some more real world experience.

Looking to get it to replace a bunch of stuff on my board - namely Tonehammer, X7, Maxon Compressor, and Cabzone LE

I'd like to get some info about this as well. It depends on this wether I would swap my X7 or not.

So does that mean that in blue mode it’s a full range compressor when the distortion is off and then compresses only the lows when distortion is engaged ?

This is not correct. There are some video demos that say this erroneously, but unit in hand and according to the manual, the Blue mode full-range compressor ONLY affects the Clean channel

Manual only states that compression gets applied to the clean signal when in blue mode, doesn’t state if it stops being full range when in distorted mode.

With my one, it definitely seems like the compression is applied full range when switching on distortion in the blue mode.

Happy to be wrong about that though - maybe @Darkglass could set the record straight?

From the manual: “in both Blue and Red modes, distortion (channel) is identical”

I'm having a difficult time dialing in how exactly the microtubes x is going to work for me. I use a Microtubes 500 head and will use either distortion circuit in that unit depending on the song. I'm wondering if anyone here has run a second OD like the microtubes x into the effects loop of the microtubes 500 head. That way, I can dirty up the whole spectrum before filtering it out a bit with the X. Idk. I'm getting a little worn out trying to get this thing to get the sounds I hear other guys getting.

FX Loops generally send signals that are best suited for effects units expecting a line-level. Many distortion pedals behave best when fed instrument level signals. That said, if you’ve got the cables and the time, then it might be worth an experiment. I’ve had the X and a MT900 head, though not at the same time, so I can only guess how it would work.

oohh cool. I will have to do some research because I don't really know the difference between line / instrument levels. Sounds like you're saying certain cables can counteract the difference?

What are you hearing in demos that you lack in your experience? Also, are the demos that you are hearing using the regular X or are they X7/X-Ultra? The low-comp in the bigger units makes a big difference in how it sounds IME

What effects loop on the M500? I have a 900 v1 which is the same configuration. I'm not sure what you are talking about.
