"Mid-life Crisis" Car Purchase

My purchase last year.
And I am enjoying the heck out of it. I'd wanted a Jag since I was a little kid, when I thought that the E-types were the Coolest Cars Ever.
Very happy with my XK8.
Get what you want, and enjoy.

This is my answer to "mid life crisis" vehicles. Top speed is governed to only 185 mph (silly European rules), but... to each his own. Personally, I would get the Challenger instead of the Charger; mainly because I found the small doors on the Charger very hard to get in/out of. Sadly, at my age that's become a major consideration; and the list of cars I can't have gets longer every year. But, I actually liked the Challenger more, anyway. Unfortunately, with 3 motorcycles in the garage, nothing bigger than a VW New Beetle will fit in there. A John Cooper Works Mini would fit nicely, though...:)

These, and their sister car the Buick Electra 225 (dunce and a quarter) are like rolling living rooms!

(Not that I spent a lot of time in the back seat of one in the mid 80s or anything......) ;)

I think the whole notion of the mid-life crisis car purchase is actually rooted in something else. It's not about recapturing some sort of youth. It's much more about being in a much more economically viable position to splurge on a vehicle.

Getting yourself established in life takes time. Moving into your first place, building a career, maybe getting into a serious relationship, etc. Those things take time and money. On the job front you start out as the low man on the totem pole and progress from there. Then there's marriage, kids and/or home ownership. All of these are major financial considerations. As for a vehicle? You may opt for something a bit more utilitarian while you deal with some of the bigger stuff. So you get a vehicle that your family needs instead of the one that you WANT.

But when you get a handle on all of those bills and start to make some real money? All of a sudden that car that you really wanted to get back in your 20's or 30's seems a lot more within your financial reach. So why not do something nice for yourself? Like a car!

Me? I would love to get a '67 Mustang convertible. I've wanted one ever since I was a teenager. But when you look at that car as an every day driver for someone who commutes into Manhattan and is also a semi-regularly gigging bassist? It's completely impractical.

I actually thought about a Harley. My problem with motorcycles is that there are way too many distracted auto drivers on the roads. I don't want to end up another statistic of a car versus motorcycle crash!
Thanks for the link! Some sweet cars there! I'm especially fond of the purple Cuda convertible! A bit out of my price range though! :D

I have been riding motorcycles for a long time. A sportbike will generally outrun any car. Not that I would know...

Given the need to have a midlife crisis car, it would have to be something like this, only metallic pink, with side pipes:

It would NOT have anything remotely like a Ghostbusters car about it.

From this and other posts, I sense that you do mid-life-crisis-type cars well.
The new 'vette looks great - they really nailed the styling IMO.
