Mikeyswood - BUYER BEWARE

I'll be contacting everyone who has expressed interest in helping with the group build, we will get this going in the next couple weeks. I have 17 commissions I have to finish before years end, so this will be a moderate paced goal. Thanks to all.

Wow. I started reading this thread, and the Mikeyswood train wreck it entails, and was feeling pretty sick.

Now I'm seeing Musiclogic and several other TB luthiers picking up the wreckage and getting ready to make it right on their own.

That really restores my faith in human beings and in TB luthiers.
Guys, I tip my hat.

I have never owned a custom built bass but one day I will commission one. This thread will not dissuade me from choosing a lesser known builder. In fact, after seeing the support offered by my TB brothers who build them, I am more confident than ever that this sad story is the exception and not the rule. Hoping that everything works out and very impressed at the sense of community here onTB.

I was unable to read all 15 pages of postings, but I think I see where this is heading.

I was scanning along to see if Mikey had responded to any of this . . . didn't see a thing.

The conduct of Mikeyswood hurts all luthiers associated with Talkbass.com The arrogance in his email responses to Alex display such a disregard for his customer that I am floored!

Again, having not read all 15 pages of posts so far, it does seem that there is an effort afoot to build a bass for Alex? If there is anything I can do to help this situation, please include me! I wish to offer any assistance that I can.

Thanks!
Cj

As a mod, I need to be careful how I comment in this thread, because of my close association with the site. But I have to agree that this whole debacle just reeks - sickeningly so - of one man's sheer arrogance. Frankly, it's hard for me to understand how anyone can feel anything but ashamed of what they are with this sort of behaviour, and I'm not just talking about the money.

I guess the attraction to political involvement speaks volumes and could be interpreted in many ways, but I'm not even going to go there.

It's great to see all the other genuine musical instrument craftsmen chiming in and offering to try and salvage a bass to be played from this ****storm. Class and generosity all around to restore faith in the way people can be at their best - thanks, well done.

I haven't said anything because I don't think there's much I could do here amongst the real builders -- but if I can help with something, let me know. I'd love to shape the roundover contours / curved face on something Pagelli-ish.

...hmmm... (gets possible idea for bass #2) :eyebrow:

Frankly, it's hard for me to understand how anyone can feel anything but ashamed of what they are ...

Never be ashamed of what you are. BTW, what the hell are you?

Here is something that may help, He is now a politician so he says, have someone in Cincinnati call the press and tell them how this politician has scammed some one out of 1,500 dollars, if it gets to the news, he will have no choice but to make things right, or risk his political career from going any further, just a thought. Sorry for all the trouble you are going thru.

Alex, I hope you are redesigning your bass in your head! :D With all these new offers to help out coming in, I think you may get your bass yet, it just won't be Alembic quality for 1/3 the price...

I would suggest taking Marko (MPU) up on his offer, as that would be awesome ( :bassist: ), but if you're interested, I've got a single unused five string EMG here new in the package that I would be most happy to donate to this project. I can't remember what kind it is, but I'll check and post back, assuming you are still interested in EMGs...
