Glad you cut your losses and discovered all this support. I have zero to offer you in the way of advice or anything, but I'd be happy to try and source a bit of bog oak or irish elm or something that might be incorporated to turn this into a wonderful international build.

I have also been following this thread and felt moved by the generosity and comraderry of the TB brethren. The only thing that I can think of that I could contribute is some authentic Kiwi paua shell for inlays. I have a lot of shells lying around, someone might have to polish it and get it all ready to go.

Best of luck mate

I'm inspired to see all these good people chip in, but at the same time, I'm very disappointed by the lack of energy expended in getting this turd to do the right thing. Unsubscribing.

Mike has made it obvious multiple times that he has no interest in doing the right thing. It was a losing battle and he's better off cutting his losses at this point. There's no guarantee that the bass would end up the way the OP wanted it. Even if it did end up right, it would alway carry a bad vibe because of the negative experience. At least now he has a chance to have his bass built by people who actually cares about what he wants. What more are you expecting from everyone?

I have been through a similar sort of deal with a clown who acted like he was the best amp builder ever, got my money then held me hostage until I paid more. The technical discussions sounded eerily like yours. I finally got the thing and had to have it all redone, it was so lousy it was dangerous. My resolution efforts were much as yours, trying to be reasonable and non-inflammatory so I could at least get something back, b/c every time I got upset and communicated that it was considered a personal attack and he just exploded. Or at least that was his act. I'm convinced he is just a con.

I'm hopeful that in your case the personal appearance by your Cinci "partner" will at least get you your parts, if he in fact has them.

Sounds like a person who has overcommitted himself on all fronts and luthiery, although may be an interest in his life and he may be quite skilled, seems very much a hobby and not a career.
My advice is to prepare yourself for a very long wait time before completion of the bass.
Sorry.....

Hi folks,

Firstly thank you all for your kind words and offers. I will politely and humbly decline the offer of donations. I have been stung for $1500, which isn't pocket change, but it's not going to put me out on the street.

If anyone would like so send money in the direction of JC (musiclogic), reticle, mrarose, Jason Rickett, Hammerhed , MPU, Jworrell, Phil etc, feel free. But as it stands now I feel that I personally don't warrant any more kindness than that which has already been displayed and orchestrated.

A fellow TBer has been trying to get Mike to deliver the parts I requested (about $200 worth) and it looks like an exchange may happen on Friday (fingers crossed), with the parts being sent to JC.

As far as I can see, Mike has told his own story without uttering a word. He knows of this threads existence, he was warned that I might create it, and John Turner gave him an opportunity (outside of forum view) to offer his side of the story. I can only conclude that that offer was ignored, but that's the mod's domain, so I'm really speculating. Ultimately he has no chance to tell his story now, as he has been banned.

What will come out of this is a very cool bass with an even cooler story.

I very much hope you guys will see the final result, but beyond that, I hope that the actions of the LC patrons will serve to show that Mike was/is the exception, and the rest of the guys the rule.

My hat truly goes off to everyone who has posted in this thread, and especially to the guys currently working on a very special instrument

Alex

I have been following this thread for a few weeks, and it makes me very happy to think about how it's turning out. Just think: If Alex had waited it out and continued to hope that Mike would eventually finish this thing, then AT BEST he would have ended up with a bass that made him angry and bitter every time he looked at it.

Instead, he is going to own a bass that will make him smile with gratitude when he thinks of how his compadres here at TB stepped up to the plate and made the best of a crappy situation.

Cheers to all you talented folks who are going to be working on what will become a truly one-of-a-kind instrument.

To Musiclogic: I know Alex is not looking for donations, but if any of the luthiers involved need a hand ordering parts, strings, whatever, PM me with their info and I'll hook 'em up!

Same for me - please put me on record as being ready, willing, and able to contribute to this project as needed!

After being out of the TB loop for awhile....whew. I didn`t read the whole thread, but I read enough. All I can say is " Karma`s a bitch, ain`t it Mike " ? While a very knowledgable luthier who shared a lot of good info here, his attitude was inexcusable. The fact that he felt the need to berate someone in nearly every single build thread made Luthier`s Corner an unpleasant visit for me. Every other TBer who hangs here has been great...Mikey always came across as the guy at the party that nobody really liked but didn`t know how to tell him. Or the guy one who always wants to tell others how great he is. Strange guy. Not trying to bash the guy - even though he has me, over innocent questions. Just happy to see others here finally coming to the same conclusion - that TB is a better place now. If he comes back in the future, it`s my hope that he`s a little humbled - there`s more to being a good person than a level of skill in a trade. So sorry for the OP...mate, you handled it better than I would have. And it seems another great TB brotherhood story is shaping up !
