For me this is more than vegan posturing. There is a Buddhist/spiritual basis for my feelings. I'm ok with other's choices but it isn't the right thing for me at this stage in my life.

Yes, for me being vegan is just part of a lifestyle choice and my Buddhist world view to do no harm, respect all life and whenever possible don't cause suffering but alleviate it.

I know that even with this there is harm that is created anyway but minimizing it is my goal.

@ShoeManiac, most people will resort to cannibalism if they get hungry enough, and historically, cannibalism has helped humanity through some rough times. Doesn't mean being a cannibal is morally equivalent to not being a cannibal. "I was forced to do terrible things for my family's survival" doesn't make these things less terrible (though it might incline a sympathetic or Christian listener to be more forgiving). "We should all learn to hunt deer in case the power goes off for 2 weeks and we get thrown into the dark ages" is a good survival tip, thanks.
