MIM vs. MIA

Go to the store and scrutinize them. It's wood and screws so there will be variation in both lines. However, I'd say that the MIAs are in general made a bit better with better components.

I'll tell ya man and i'm being honest i have played at least 50 or more MIMs from J's to P's ,deluxes to standards. In that time I have never found one and at several diffrent stores a MIM bass as bad as some of the ones discribed here on TB.

Hey if i did i wouldnt play them or buy them period.An 1/8" gap at the P/G and control plate?..excessive fret sprout?...never. I have seen some fret sprout,neck gap, and offline P/G where they come to the control plate on a jazzs...thats about it beside setup issues.

On tone your have to spend your time finding the right one for sure. All of the MIMs i have owned played as well and felt as nice as a MIA or i would of never bought it. There is a natural finish MIM P bass hanging in my local GC right now. I'm pretty sure its still there...nice with tort guard i like it but dont need it.It has been there for a while i think cuz it looks vintage and younger players dont like that look so much. I have played this bass when testing out amps..new markbass etc.It blows away the MIA's i played against it and the hwy 1s i played against it everytime. I really love it but have to sell my 50's special to get it and i love the 50's more . MIMS area a great deal if you shop wise.

Graphite neck reinforcement is a big plus. resale is a plus. You will always wonder if the MIA is better i you don't have a MIA.

You can get a nice bass if you upgrade a MIM. Unfortunately, once you're done it's worth about $50.

Not true, I sold my 4 string MIM jazz for $250.00, My 5 standard MIM for $300.00 amd my deluxe 4 MIM for $300.00 all were stock.
