"Mini 4x10's"

LDS has great-looking cabs on their site! This gives me an idea. Does anyone remember the Ampeg V10 cab with 10 10" speakers in a weird 2x3x3x2 diagonal pattern? I am thinking that 10 8" speakers would be fun in that configuration.

LDS website has a picture of two front-ported 4x8 cabs stacked. With the right drivers, a stack like that could really be a terrific way to go! I am currently putting GB MAX 6.0 on either SWR Goliath Jr II or Henry the 8x8 both of which I have had since 1995 or so. Either way, the rig sounds great, but I am thinking the new amp would sound even better with some new speakers. GB has a 1x10 that sounds great, but i have no idea what the driver is. Does anyone know? I'd love to see a GB 4x8 in the near future!

what do you think of it? Written a review?

Thanks

I've only played it on a couple of gigs at low volume so far. Most of my recent gigs have had strong PA support where I used my AI Coda (1X10) for monitoring only. After I've had the opportunity to push it harder a couple of times I will write something up. The only objective comment I have at this point came from two drummers. They both said it was "punchy", not a description normally associated with the AI combos.

From what I read of the new Orange iso cabs, they extend the low end greatly. So now I have a dream.

An 8x6.5inch. The back 6.5's would be long throws(if such a thing exists in 6.5), and the front would be regular. So it would be the size of a 4x6.5 but will actually be 8x6.5 iso. I bet it would be a monster.

I guess this is my mini 4x10 (under construction). These came about from vehicle changes. I had two options get a different car or different cabs. So you can see the descision that was made. These are 23"x13"x18" Side Ported w external tweeter. I did side port over rear because most places I visit I am stuck up next to a wall. This way I can place the ports away from the wall so there's no problem. These are around 25% smaller vol than my previous cabs but hopefully I would lose much low end response. I am still well within the parameters of the driver so I'll just have to wait and see. The best part is both of these will fit in the trunk of my mustang. I guess the only downside is they can never be used in a traditional 4x10 fashion but I haven't ran my 2x10's like that in well over a year.

3506string, those cabs look nice, I might try something like that in the future. I'd like to go with relatively high x-max tens that can do well without using a tweeter.

Did you come up with the size/porting by using speaker enclosure modeling software? Is each ten effectively in a separate enclosure? Are you planning on using a separate tweet enclosure(s)? What tens are you planning on using?

Who's making 4x8 and/or 4x10 cabs with all drivers aligned vertically? That'd give you better horizontal dispersion than placing the drivers side by side. Anybody rolling your own?

Is the form factor just too different for the market? Admittedly, it could be a bit of a challenge placing anything but the smallest of amp heads on top.
I think a vertical 4x8 is a cool idea for the reasons you mentioned; but if it was really tall and skinny I'd be concerned about knocking it over. Accugroove recently introduced the 'minigroove' and 'mini sub' based on 8" drivers and I'm a little leery of it for that reason.
