Mini Rigs of Doom Four

Or, when the ***hat sound droid insists on using his :poop: Behringer or other Di that's been all duct taped up to keep it in one piece over something better we may have.

When I want to use my nice tube DI, and they suggest I use their duct taped Behringer DI, I like to say to them "Cool, I also have an old Fostex cassette 4 track in the car, do you want to borrow it to run FOH tonight?" lol

Maybe not mini - but is small. DIY 10 cabinets (x2) with the Mark 250 series. Loud enough for my band (acoustic guitar, bass, drums and violin)

My new-is MROD. Recently got the BB800. I haven't seen this combination so I'll add to the Quilter love.
Bass>Walter Woods>BB800>Bergantino AE112

This rig solves all of my amp GAS. When I run it without the WW it sounds amazing, giving me all the heft and girth I have longed for. The WW is a great amp but if I had to choose, the BB800 would win out. I can't really add anything to all the descriptions people have posted to describe it's capabilities.

I put the WW in the chain to play with tone, and yes, it does give me more flavours. But the BB800 by itself is fully capable. I will gig with just the BB800. I don't really get all the criticism of it's preamp.

As for power--let's just say I've put a down payment on an Epifany 2x12, but now I am not sure I really need it because this rig is so powerful.

Yes a single One10. I use two normally, which is a great stack, usually use an LMIII, great for most any gig. A single One10 works great. This gig was a trio, acoustic guitar, small drum kit and bass. I was DI through the PA also, along with Kick and snare, vocals, guitar, it was a fairly large room, 200ish people. Had the elf just over a week, this was my 4th gig using it. Sounds great! Are you a Kiwi?

Wow, it’s pretty hard to get more MRoD than an Elf and a One10! That’s even minier than the One10 and MB200 I used to have (I recently sold the MB200 after buying a Magellan 350). But, even though my setup is a little less mini now, it’s still pretty MRoD.

That reminds me, I need to post an updated “club” photo with the new head.

Yeah bro, expat living in new mexico. Coming home for a pie in a few weeks tho.

Great set up you have by the sounds of it! And think I'll go ahead and get a one10 on that review. Getting a sadowsky down there is impressive too, nice one.

I've inadvertently become a member of this club as time has progressed and heads/cabs have been bought and sold. I still have two big Ampeg cabs, an 8x10 and a 4x10, but I now also have two mini rigs of doom: 1) Trace Elliot ELF and matching 1x10" cab, and 2) Mesa D800 and Barefaced Super Compact, pictured with my go-to Jazz Bass (hard-wired in series with two DiMarzio Model J pickups and LaBella low tension flats; it's louder than my P-bass with a 1/4 Pounder!).

The ELF and 1x10" is killer for playing at home and for drummer-less scenarios. I used it at a wedding gig for a cocktail hour set separate from the main reception space, which happened to be outdoors, and it more than held up against the keys and sax (keys were going through a QSC K10 on a pole). I've used just the head with my Ampeg 4x10 outdoors, too, and it did great powering that. It also really works great with my Bass VI.

The D800 and Super Compact are more recent acquisitions, waiting to be gigged (though I've had the D800+ for a little while), but I A/B'd the Super Compact and my Ampeg 4x10 with the same amp and I can tell it will easily meet that cabinet's abilities, despite the footprint and 23.5 pound weight. It's fun to go mini without losing sound pressure level!

I've spent the last few weeks putting together this rig. Tested the full setup for the first time at rehearsal yesterday and I'm extremely pleased with how it sounds.

The pedalboard will probably change a bit over the coming months, but the core tone using the LMB-3, MXR Bass DI and Hartke HD500 was excellent straight out of the box.

The Sub'n'up is just on there because I had one lying around - I don't really have much use for an octaver, but until something takes its place it might as well stay. Maybe I'll suddenly find a use for it :)

Easily one trip from the car, and enough volume for a rock band (well, at least *my* rock band :D)

Have I already posted this? Quilter BB800 + Genz Benz Shuttle 8T for leading music at a camp in the Poconos every August and nearly any other event that doesn't involve a drummer (and even some that do).

Swap out the GB for a Markbass NYC121 for bar gigs (up to and including "power trio with SRV-wannabe who refuses to turn down and gets volume complaints at every gig").

Lots of posts here either forget the "mini" (one-trip load in with no dolly) or the "of doom" part (able to keep up with a loud rock band with drums). That D800+Super Compact rig actually delivers both, based on my experience with a MB800+Big BabyII rig.
And I dig that bass too! I run a jazz bass with Dimarzio Model J's and a series/parallel switch and those pups in series are *super* fat!

You make a good point - I should have posted a pic of my larger cab.

I haven't been following the MAS stuff too much but, that cabinet looks way too traditional for him. :smug:
He has some that are less traditional looking (and some, like my MAS 112, that are pretty traditional looking) but, in general, I think that Mike's stuff has been evolving to be more schlep/stage friendly and straightforward.

In any case, if that 18 is like the one I tried at Mike's place, it's a little beast (and that one didn't have the Duke-tweaked crossover, yet).
