The Norm Stockton Clinic this afternoon at Plymouth Covenant was even worth the snowy-icy drive home! Good Stuff... Great Guy! Nice to see Timmy, Greg & Matt too.

Hope some of you make it to the clinic this evening!

It was nice seeing Dave & Timmy on Saturday.
Norm was great as usual.

I made it over to MMS Sunday night for the Frank Russell and Norm Stockton clinic too.
Norm did a condensed version of the Saturday clinic.
Frank did a lot of playing and showed off the USA 55-94 & Tribute 55-02 basses.

I am a very big fan of Lakland basses. My experience is with the Fender clones & the Decade.
Frank slapped the 55's silly and also played some Stevie Wonder. The guy has some MONSTER chops.
I was very disappointed in his tone though. The 55's sounded like they had a wet blanket wrapped around it.
It may well have been because he was using the GK rig that Norm had set for his bass but Frank never attempted to make any adjustments to it so I started to think maybe it is just the room. Then Norm got up there, plugged in his MTD 535, slightly tweaked a couple of knobs on the 1001RB and sounded GREAT! It was like pulling out a set of foam ear plugs.

Norms clinics always get me pumped up and want to woodshed more and noodle less. I got home a little before 10 last night and played my bass until 12:30.

I was fortunate to be able to carve out time for both the Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening sessions. I appreciate the opportunity to sit in front of musicians like Norm and Frank to try and absorb some of their SKA (skills, knowledge and abilities).

While Norm did recycle a lot of his material, it was good to hear him in a different setting. I'm sure he really looks forward to questions from the audience so he can get off the presentation track. I wish I would have had something ask!

Frank was an impressive player. I hoped he would have talked a little more and played a little less; I wanted to hear more about him and how he got where he was. I wonder if the small size of the group bothered him? I did go home with his CD. I've gotten through the first half - some good stuff on there, so far.

I agree with the tone issues comment: I have a 55-02 and heard a lot of my instrument's sound characteristics in Frank's, even though his was strung higher (EADGC vs BEADG). I have been tweaking the preamp DIP switches, setup, pickup heights, strings, trying to dial in the sweet spot over the last few months; I may be there and not know it. I wonder what it would have been like if he had run through the MB head they had on the stage instead of the RB?

I didn't get a photo of Frank, but here's the obligatory Norm.

I can't remember who, but I was talking to someone at the last GTG who was looking for a decent 210 cab. I just saw this listing on CL and thought I'd share it. It's for an Avatar neo 210.

That's my ad. I got the cab in a trade, so I'm not sure what they went for a few years ago but right now they're going for quite a bit ($484 shipped for the options I have - Neo, tolex, metal grill).

I might have some wiggle room for a TBer :D

I had it up on TB but then I looked at shipping something that weighs 50 lbs across the country

I'm guessing the original price was about what you're asking, but then the price of neo speakers sky-rocketed. I think your price is fair. If I were trying to buy I'd offer you $300 just because I always figure the seller left some wiggle room in the original price. If I wanted it badly and you wouldn't move I'd probably go for the $325.

OTOH, if I feel like the seller is already taking a bath on the item I'll give him the asking price with no haggling - no need to add insult to injury.

Does any one want to temporarily trade basses? I have a honey burst ray 34 that I can use for collateral. I want to try some different p's and jazzes. classic vibes, vintage modifieds, mim etc, nothing too fancy.

My P is really uncommon and it would pretty much just tell you if you can like a P-Bass or not - oh and the Antiquities II pickup. I don't think I want to part with it. It gets a lot of play by me.

I will tell you that the nicest P I've played in a long time was a MIM '57 reissue, Fiesta Red (salmon colored with a gold anodized pick guard) that was on the wall at Twin Town last I knew. Unfortunately it was $1200. That thing was alive. I loved it, but I also love my P-Bass and I didn't have and couldn't justify $1200. At that price, perhaps it's still there. I've never plugged it in, but it felt great to play.

Anyone use an acoustic bass? A friend is going into the hospital on Monday for a while and a couple of us want to stop by later in the week and play a bit. I could bring a low powered combo and my P.

Has anyone done this? Or should I just learn how to play a son's six string acoustic?

I always use a fretless and my Fender RAD Bass (BXR25, Rumble 25, the same basic amp, 25 watts into a 10", has had a lot of names, but it's awesome). It just seems to sit the best with acoustics, IME. I've done it a LOT.

That said, a P would be great.

Who's making cabs out there? I've got quite a few speakers around and I'd like to make a couple of 12+6 cabs using a pair of four ohm Eden 12" cast frame woofers and Eminence Alpha 6A's. I've got the basic design pretty well settled and I'd like to get a pair of boxes built.
