Another point I would be interested in is if anyone has any experience or knowledge about custom molded earplugs. I.E. places around the Twin Cities that deal with or cater to musicians. I'm noticing more and more that these would be a GREAT investment into the longevity of my playing days. I'm just starting to do some homework and research on them and if anyone can share info at the GTG or a thread for all to read that would be most appreciated!

As a bass player plugs let me turn down because a lot of the sonic kruft interfering with me hearing myself gets cleared out. As a drummer they make me play louder because I'm not getting the sonic feedback from the snare and cymbals that I'm used to. The louder gigs where I might want plugs are on drums, where it's not a good idea for me to wear them for the band, venue and audience's sakes. It kind sucks. I'd need in ears and a small diaphragm condenser above the drums mixed in for me to be able to do it.

I have these and have used them since 2000. Best musical investment I have ever made!!! They were about $250-$275 back then. I can't remember the name of the clinic that I got them at but I do remember it was in Edina on France Ave just south of Centenial Lakes in the medical office "plaza" there. I think I just called my doc and asked for him to recomend an ear nose and throat Doctor. I made the apt, they filled my ear with some crap to make a mold, then about a week or two later I had my plugs. I had the option to get varying degrees of db reduction from 10-15-25 dbs. I got the 25's and they have been great. The filters are interchangeable too so you can get 15 and 25 db reduction and change them out as you need.

They are very comfortable, in fact i often forget they are in. But the best part is the sound. The filters allow you to hear all frequencies clearly, just as you would w/o plugs in, but the db's are reduced. Just like turning down the volume.

I can't make the GTG tonight. but feel free to PM/call or email me if you want more info or if you want to find a time to meet so you can see them. That goes for everybody!

You do need to clean them though. I clean mine about every 2-3 months depending on use. They are kind of delicate so they do need some TLC. Don't bang them around or leave them in your pocket or they can break. but 10+ years of use out of mine and they still work great!

I'm with Kraigo on this one.

=--

I had custom ear plugs made at an industrial plant (they outfitted the entire production crew with them)..

In reality I like to dial in asmuch/little as possible.

I'd heavily suggest the consideration of IEM ear buds.. you can normally remove the wire (if you want them as ear plugs).. you really can't fit IEM into ear cans.

----

IF someone were interested.. PM me.. I could bring my IEM/wireless anvil.. I'm not going to unless there's a specific request.

I had my ear molds done at a place on Lake St. It was named "ear mold design" I think.

Its not the most up to date looking place because they've mainly been a lab but they did a good job. Now that I've got the molds getting others made is much cheaper.

I found a link -> Link Removed

I really enjoyed it too! A lot of great gear and excellent company. Wish I would have gotten some more pics (Guild, Alembic, Wal... etc.).

Someone left a coat behind... it saddens me that it wasn't filled with cash or jewels.. or a name.

Question -- How did you explain "I'm going to hang out with some bass guys" and show up with fewer clothes on when you returned home?:o

Your jacket is safe.

Yeah, guess we didn't get around to it. I couldn't believe the time said 10:30 when I checked my clock, time flew for me!

Check the link to this song by Gov't Mule with Allen Woody playing bass back in 1995. Skips to the 3:40 mark to hear some really great walking bass lines.:bassist:

When I grow up, this is how I want to play bass.
