[Minneapolis/MN Thread] Where's the "beer" thread icon?

I'd suggest an Avatar 2x10. It's a little over your budget, but they sound decent and get moderately loud. Alternatively, start watching Craig's List and search the Music-Go-Round website as well as the TB classifieds for 2x10's.

$200 is aggressively cheap but with a buyer's market you may be able to find something.

I thought it was a Hartke. It was a combo amp. I had an older cube model of the same and I thought mine was awesome (1415?). Nice presence due the aluminum cone and decent tone all around. Loud enough to be heard in reasonable situations. The query was for a cab, so I didn't recommend it.

On another note,

My always reliable Eden wt-800 just failed at my gig Tuesday night.

I know one or two guys use a similar amp, and just wondering if anyone can point me in a direction to fix an eden.....I'd rather not ship it to them since they are not local anymore.

At the end of the first set it got very quiet and has/had a mild distortion to it. I shut it off, came back 10 minutes later and it sounded fine. Plenty of power, clean signal etc.

During the first song of the second set, it did it again.

I plugged direct into the smallish PA we use for vocals, and I hate to say it, but I was really digging the sound I got.:hmm:

Maybe PM me so I don't hijack the thread...thanks boys.

I'll reply to this one public.. someone may benefit.

DO NOT keep turning on to test if it's coming back from the dead. There are some situations that send a hi volt DC charge to your speakers - unfortunately this depends on the amp-someone familiar with your exact amp would need to comment...

Local
Good Guys is slow..
Savage is kind of the regional repair assembly line.
PM me if you prefer working with smaller one guy shops... I have the direct contact to one of the guys who services multiple vendors.

OPINION - Send it to the Factory
That being said, overall - my best head service has always been mailing back to the factory.

Why?

The staff commonly have seen the failure before.. know what other parts fail (and premtively swap).. and will Hipot test it. Last one I sent in was only about $170 total (including shipping) -- they went over everything.. Unfortunately repair depots repair --- the factory guys seen tons of the same make/model and understand preemptive upgrades.

PS - I have a head (or several) that I can lend you to get you through... I woundn't let needing it fast cloud the repair -- PM me if this can help you.

I'm pretty sure it's just a worn out preamp tube (10 yrs old!). My WT800C exhibited the same behavior and Eden tech support had me change the tube - fixed it and really solidified the sound. Tube swap is not too tough, just boring with all the screws to remove and replace... over 20 IIR.

Worth a try--- any good vendor would do this anyways..

REmember then to plug it back in to a cab you don't care about.

Great pics by the way! I'm Carl, the long haired guy with glasses and the Aguilar 4x12 :D

... are you sure? Perhaps we had a stealth celebrity ;)

Jimmy (Flim) Johnson - Flim and the BB's, Alan Holdsworth & James Taylor... (also a Minnesotan!) His brother, Gordy, is a KILLER (!!!) DB player... who can smoke on electric if he feels like it. Jimmy is the guy who is credited with the inspiring the 1st (BEADG) 5 string bass and a LONG time Alembic player.

I almost come from the Northern Iron Range by way of a grandparent from Finland. And as a child, Bemidji's Paul Bunyan and Babe were of great interest when heading around to some old lake resorts with the folken. I've enjoyed a little time in Minneapolis as well.

I do however need to see a Coen Brothers flick about Minnesota that rivals FARGO before I can again consider travel there.
