hey i know this might be a little weird, but would anyone be interested in throwing together some money to get steve lawson to play in msp somewhere? I mean, he is planning a tour in may/june and maybe he could stop by for a house concert or a small venue? they say it costs in the area of 400 bucks, which if we could get 20 people to throw in 20 bucks, that's it! Or maybe if we could get a small coffee shop to throw in, we throw in and leave a tip jar on stage, that could help pay for it too. I was thinking a cool venue for him to play at would be the astor cafe in St. Anthony, or a similar place.

Good idea? bad idea? I'd love to get steve to come here--lol if i had my way, i'd front the 400 bucks for him to come over and play at my house to just me, but that might be a little awkward for him lol

If anyone is interested in the fEarful cabinets, I just finished building two of the 15/6 cabs.

They are ridiculously big sounding with the B string, next GTG I hope someone has lower string to try in it.

I'd like to hear this sometime. I'm still using a little 100 watt combo for gigs. If this becomes too small, I think one 15/6 cab and a micro amp would work.

I'd love to hear those fEarful 15/6 cabs. I've lurked in the fEarful threads since the beginning, but I don't have the skills or the woodworking tools (or the patience!) to build one myself.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it to the next GTG. If so, I'll bring my Knuckle Quake, which has a low F# string.

I won't be going back to The Good Guys ever again. I dropped off my GK amp for some warranty work and they had it for 4 months. I tried calling after about 5 weeks (supposed to be done in 4 weeks) to get a status update. They didn't answer their phone for a couple days (during their regular business hours) and didn't return the messages I left.

I called again a week or so later and they said they hadn't even touched it yet. I was given vague promises of "soon" but nothing happened again for a couple weeks. I called again around the holidays and they said it still hadn't even been looked at. They gave me some BS about being busy around the holidays and asked if I could sit tight until after the holidays.

Two weeks pass and I call them the second week of January to see if they had finished yet and they said they still hadn't looked at it yet. Now I was angry. I threatened to go pick it up and bring it to another shop and told them their service was inexcusable. They then made a more firm promise to have it done in a week. I called the other local GK service center to check their turnaround time on an amp repair (EMI; two weeks estimated, by the way). This time they actually followed through.

I have yet to actually try the amp since picking it up as work is killing me, but I wasn't impressed with their tolex repair job. A small triangle of tolex near the power button on my GK MB212 was peeling and all they did was cut it off. The amp also had a rattle of some kind going on and they said they fixed that. We'll see how the amp sounds tonight.

Thanks! I need to get you that varitone switch don't I?

I hope to see you soon, but I'm in no particular hurry.

I'm doing a rare non-church bass gig (I'm primarily a drummer but I have a church gig on bass) at Dunn Bros. in Coon Rapids tonight. Our usual bassist has family obligations and I'd rather play bass with no drums than drums with no bass.

I have no idea what we're playing, so it should be fun.

I'll be using my typical church rig of late: a Noguera (French luthier - bought in Paris in 1998) five string fretless into the Shuttle 6.0 into a home brew 1x10 that I've been absolutely digging since I swapped out the woofer. The cab is just creamy and has incredible low end presence. It usually gets played at low enough levels that it doesn't swamp the room in mud.

I live in Roseville and our band is Barefoot Boogie Band. We hosted an open jam last night west of the Twin Cities. I primarily play bass, but also play guitar and drums. I have a variety of MarkBass amps and cabs, in case anyone would like to meet at an open jam and try them out.

I took my amp out on the town to be recapped.
Gooby wasn't taking any SS amps (why the discrimination?)
The Good Guys gave a nice qoute but I steered clear.
Twin Town wasn't terribly cheap, so I took the amp to Savage audio.
Super nice folks, and it's amp heaven in the shop.
I'll let you know how the service turns out.

I was able to try the amp out yesterday and it sounded great. The Good Guys did a nice job of eliminating the rattle. It's a shame that their customer service was so bad since they were able to fix my amp in about a week once they actually applied themselves.

I still won't be going back there as I've read a lot of accounts similar to mine on other websites. Good luck with your repair.
