Adding my voice to the chorus for black. Maybe because it's a 70s thing, and I grew up in the 70s, but I also think tort is too busy aesthetically on a burst. Black just looks sharp imo.

Black is the answer most of the time - here is one more example.

By the way: mint, parchment, white, all those white or slightly off white pickguards, when you get on a stage with a bunch of different colored lights, they're all white - you'll never see that you have a mint or parchment guard in those circumstances.

Not all tort is created equally. On that J5? I would lean more towards black.

This is a spitfire tort guard. This was also an instance of treating myself. But the answer for you should be what you like best.

I've changed out the bridge with a hipshot so the strings line up with the pup poles. Now I've changed out the mint pick guard for a tort. The color balance is a bit off as the pickguard looks a little pink, it isn't

Brown Tort, if that's what you decide. That other one looks baaaaaad.
However, I am inclined to agree that a nice light mint just may fit the bill. A bit more subdued than stark white, plus not your normal/standard "Tort Issue". God forgive me............

Normally I'd say "Tort"..... but not all tort is the same. Some looks a lot better than others. See color #41 of "Pickguard Planet.com". That would look very nice on there.

Thanks, I think it's the right color scheme for a J. I was happy that the MiM 70s reissues hit it just right for my tastes. Goes nicely with my actual 70s P (mocha with black pick guard).

Are you going to be looking at it, posting pics of it, or playing it? I would give different answers for each situation.

But personally, I prefer black on 3TS, as seen here (the only 3TS bass I currently own)
