I agree on Cano. I think the Mariner front office is desperate to fill seats, so making this 'splash' move was their way to get people to come to games.

I picked up Cano in my fantasy league, I basically had him given to me, so that is awesome.

worked for us. a friend of mine works at Dodgers; he told me they purposefully went after Ryu to draw a Korean audience (there are many here--2nd largest Korean population outside of Seoul). Nothing new. they even started selling soju at Dodgers Stadium. Shaking my head. That stuff is evil.
We'll see how it works out for the Mariners. They now have a top five pitcher (Hernandez) and top five offensive player (Cano) on the roster. They had that and more years ago but didn't go anywhere.
Edit, I'm not a Mariner hater. I like baseball in general, and would like to see them play well. It's good for the region and good for baseball fans. I hope they can put it together, but in my opinion the front office is more concerned with making $$ than making W's.

The All-Star game is being played here at Target Field and
As a season ticket holder I will have the ability to buy 2
Sets of tickets! My first All-Star game!
On the less positive side, with the winter we are having here, the game stands a 63% chance of being delayed by SNOW! (At 4:30pm it's -2 F, the high for the day)
Oh, and I think the Twins have already been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Seattle had Ichiro and courted the Japanese market for years. That was a more natural fit for Seattle.
I moved away from Seattle in 2001 in the middle of that fantastic season. I fell out of fandom by about 2006. When Pineiro finally proved to be a total bust I had no other players that I was in to by that point. I didn't recognize the team anymore.
Only over the last couple years have I rekindled my interest in the M's. It is an unnatural, frustrating and ultimately self-defeating kind of endeavor, but sometimes we can't pick to whom our devotion goes. I just have too much history with the M's to ever turn my back on them forever. Such a weird quirky organization and fanbase. The self-deception is part of the fun of being a Mariners fan, especially when you get players that were awesome on other teams, but become brooding little no-hit-no-glove basket cases once they get to the M's. I'm looking at you Jeff Cirillo!!

If you guys are familiar with concepts like park factor, Seattle's park has always been notorious for suppressing offense. So many hitters have been destroyed by having to play there. Especially right-handed hitters.
It is a pitcher's park for sure. So you build a team with super awesome pitching and play small ball. Advance your runners, sac fly, steal alotta bases and win a lot of 3-2 or 2-1 games at home. You know, all the things the Mariner's don't do. But management keeps signing sluggers because 1995 or something.
I'll always remember the Mariners for Ken Griffey Jr. One of the sweetest strokes ever seen. Imagine if he had done roids and didn't get injured for those 2-3 years. He would have had 900 homers.
Yeah, I don't think most Mariner fans appreciated what they had with Griffey. It was a treat to watch him play.

Some of us sure did. He was a blast to watch, because he was so casual about everything.
And, one game into spring training and the Mariners are STILL in first place! No matter what happens, they will also be in first place for one more day - opening day. I plan to savor the moment.
