I forgot that it wasn't Schiraldi who pitched to Mookie Wilson. I thought the game wasn't over then, but reality could be fading into the mists of time in my memory.

A couple other things. That was 1986. You would think the Curse of the Bambino would be 86ed in 1986, but it took until 86 years after the trade to 86 the curse. So, there's clearly a paranormal, numeralogical thing going on. The big question is how many years the Cubs have yet to go before the ghost of the goat is exorcised. I don't have any superstitions except when it comes to baseball. Baseball requires oddball superstitions.

I recently re-watched that documentary about Bartman ("Catching Hell"). It's very good, but man, do I feel sorry for that guy. A split-second reaction basically ruined his life. I've always felt real bad for Bill Buckner as well. The reactions and results from both of those incidents are really sad...

It absolutely does. Billy goats can be pretty tough, ornery critters and I suspect their ghosts are as well. I'm guessing 111 years - that is a full century plus the 11 looks like goat horns. That means it will only be a few more years - 2019.

I can say GO CUBS! in full confidence that something else will happen. Another Mets World Series win would be good, though. When my wife and I lived in New York, the divide between Mets people and Yankees people was close to unbridgeable. We were Mets people, and I never got tired of telling Yankees people that AL baseball was not really baseball anyway. That was always good for some entertaining and sometimes serious conflict. And now I live in an AL city, rooting for a lousy AL team. Karma, I guess.

Rough week for my Pirates. It's bad enough that they dropped 3 of 4 to the Cubs. But what really hurts is that Jung Ho Kang suffered a broken leg and a torn ACL trying to turn a double-play. He was on the right-field side of the bag, and as he was releasing the throw, the Cub runner took him out. The runner was way wide of the bag (also on the right-field side); but his hand was within reach of the bag. Kang was having a good year, and the Pirates are gonna' miss him big-time.

As a Cards fan, I'm really sorry to see that. Horrible thing to happen to a good dude.

The Pirates blew out the Rockies Wednesday night, and thus clinched a playoff spot for the third year in the row. The second team in the NL to clinch this season.

I've suffered through the lean years with the Pirates. It is so nice to have them relevant in September/October again.

Nice work, metalstorm!

I noticed the enthusiasm of the Jays fans when they were last at Fenway and packed the stands. No question that the Blue Jays have a legit shot at winning the whole thing. Further down the division, the Yankees are stumbling to the wild card play-in game. My Sox have held them off for 3 games and I would really prefer that the Sox win tonight so that the Yanks can clinch against someone else or have to back in. Also, the Yanks have been sitting on 9,999 wins, most in AL history, I'd rather they get 10,000 sometime next year, or at minimum against Baltimore in their next series.

The alltime win leaders are Giants, Cubs(!), Dodgers, and Cardinals. In the AL its Yanks, Red Sox, Indians (!) and Tigers.

OH how I do love a cheezy fan song. That is awesome! You walk the line between tongue in cheek and fanboy very well.

Thanks goodness the x-rays on Céspedes' hand came back negative after gettign hit last night. The Mets have struggled a little bit since they've been trying to get the starters out early. I'd rather have them gas out in the playoffs trying to go for homefield advantage, than back in and lose the head of steam.
