i would expect so. there are more yankees fans to appease; more yankee fans scattered about the nation; more sportscenters on the east coast. there's a lot more money to be made if the yankees win. if the yankees don't win, they were screwed somehow. that is the sort of narrative to expect from the national media.

kind of a shame how the fans turned on their hometown team at the end. i've seen and heard that happen in houston before and i detest it.

I'm old, and it would be only natural for me to kick against the entire concept of 'the expanded playoff picture'...but I've thoroughly enjoyed Inter-League play, AND the expanded playoffs! With 3 divisions and the 'need' for a 4th team in each league to bring baseball into the 20th century, the formula needs only a bit of a tweaking to balance things out.
So, a 98 win...or a 97 win...team gets shown the door to the golf course after 9 innings??!! That runs counter to the nature of the game of the Long Season! It simply must be a 3 or a 5 game series to decide who the 4th playoff team will be in each league. Shorten the season to 150, or 140 games...start the season with the teams in the Southern part of the country playing more games at home (fewer snow outs) and allow the new formula to play itself out. The regular season ends at about the last of Sept. and the 3 teams in each league with the best records get to rest and heal (Hell, by then everyone is beaten up!) while teams 4 and 5 are allowed to follow the natural course of the season and play at least 3 games to determine who moves on, and into the tournament.
As much as I dislike snow-delayed games in Milwaukee (not pickin' on y'all!) in April, I dislike November baseball at least 44 times as much!
I was pulling for the Bucs tonight...but who could hate on this Cubs team? Who can hate on the Cards? All 3 should be waiting and healing while the Dodger and the Mess mess around to figure out which rises to the level of the NL Central...IMHO.
American League 'baseball' won't really count until they decide to play by the rules of baseball...

I agree that it would be nice to have a series, even a best of 3. Shortening the regular season might be good too. But the division winners resting might backfire. Baseball is a game of momentum, and sitting for a week waiting for a 5 game series could be detrimental.

And about the snow delayed games in Milwaukee, at least they have to roof now.

I'm fine with the one game; but if they want to go to 3 with one day being a double-header, I'd be OK with that. You can't make the Division winners sit around too long. I'm with you on November baseball; the way to shorten the season is more double-headers during the regular season.

Here's a random idea I had while listening to a local sports dude on the radio last week. Instead of a one-off to decide the Wild Card, have a 1 and 1. (I'll use Pitt and Chicago for this.) Since the Pirates had more wins than the Cubs, the first game would be held in Pittsburgh. If Pitt wins, series over. If the Cubs win, they must play another game in a game 2 elimination.

BLOODY Genius! Here in Georgia, when high school teams meet in a best of three, they play the double header on day one, and the deciding game...the 'IF' game is played the next day. I've always thought that was genius...why didn't I ever connect that to the Majors??? HUH? Why?...:roflmao:

OH! MAN! I didn't mean to take a swipe at Brewers' fans...honest to gawd! Nicest folks this side of Toronto...knowledgeable, passionate...weird to think that the Braves left there for Atlanta. I surely had County Stadium stuck in my mind's eye. I should have referenced Chicago, or Detroit, or Boston, of New York, or either of the Pennsylvania teams...just about anywhere north of Baltimore (SF ain't a picnic in the spring!). The point I was trying to make...immediately before placing my size 11 firmly into my mouth: there ought to be a way to schedule an extended road trip for northern team in April, and ask the same of teams from the south sometime in August. All hail the Brewers! The second coolest logo in the history of professional sports in North America...the cap that Paul Molitor and Robin Yount wore proudly!

Ah, County Stadium. I practically grew up in that stadium. Now that I live in Florida, I don't get much of a chance to see Miller Park. We do catch a game every time we go for a visit, but that has only been twice in the last six years.

I like the idea of an extended southern road trip, but I don't know if Brewer fans would be able to wait that long for their home opening tailgate.
