MLB 2015

The Cardinals won #100 and clinched the central at PNC Park in the second game of the double header. Good for them, but I was hoping the Pirates would make them celebrate the pennant somewhere else.

Crazy how the Pirates would have a four or more game lead in every division in MLB, except the one they play in.

My only beef with the Dodgers is that they didn't make a better offer to re-sign Hanley Ramirez allowing him to accept Mr. Henry's millions in Boston. But considering that the Dodgers took Crawford (useless), Beckett (was on the back 9), and Gonzales (great hitter, but not a winner) off our hands, I'm willing to call it even.

Hey, LA, you want Hanley back? The Sox are willing to deal - they'll pay salary, throw in some midlevel prospects. Please, I'm begging.

I agree. I do have a lot of respect for Clayton Kershaw and some of the other players. It is just too bad Kershaw has to wear that Blue and White uniform.

It seemed like a good idea at the time and he played his normal position, but another huge disappointment. I think the Sox will try to move him as well - I'd prefer Brock Holt or Travis Shaw at 3rd next year. If I had to keep one, it would be Pablo, Hanley needs to go someplace else and be a fulltime DH or he needs to learn 1st base over the winter. The amazing thing to me is that the Sox would have better without them -37 million down the drain this year and on the hook for another 155 million - glad its not my money, bad enough my eyeballs had to watch them.

Yup, he is a very streaky player and doesn't have a lot of discipline at the plate or at the plate. ;) When he is hot he can hit anything in the strike zone, when he is cold he is an average of below average player.
When he is in shape he has very good defense at third, it is surprising how well a guy his size can move. If he has made a few too many trips to the pre-game buffet he can be a detriment at third. The Giants benched him during the 2010 W.S. because he wasn't hitting and his weight was interfering with his play at third.
He is a likeable guy and was very popular here in S.F. Some people lamented his loss, but I knew it was probably not a huge (pun intended) loss. Matt Duffy has really come into his own at the plate and at third. He is almost the anti-Pablo. He looks a little like Captain America before he took the shots.

Plate discipline! Exactly. When he is on he reminds me of Vlad Guerrero, hitting anything no matter where it is pitched. He started well but gained weight during the season and faded badly at the end. He needs to train with Pedroia who is a workout monster in the off-season. Bogaerts did last year and turned in an All-star level performance this year.

I will not apologize for the Yankees whiffing it up at the plate all night, but that ump's strike zone was complete BS. So many edge of the zone pitches were called strikes for the Astros and not for the Yankees. It also shows what complete BS that on-screen strike zone projection is, too. Can't stand it.

I also don't feel good about a play-off rookie starting game one at 9:45pm EST for the Mets on Friday. deGrom has the stuff, but that time shift can be tough.

Yeah, the Pirates (AND the Cubs, for that matter), would have been the Division winners in any other Division this year. Really odd that the top 3 are all in the same Division. And I hate that the Pirates have to play in the Wild Card game for the 3rd year in a row. First of all, they have to go up against Arietta, who just might be the most dominating pitcher in the game right now. Last year they ran into a crazy-good Madison Bumgarner.

Secondly, the Pirates have to pitch Cole in the Wild Card game; so even if they ARE able to get to Arrietta and win the WC game, Cole wouldn't be available to pitch the opener against the Cards. But it is what it is. I do hope they can at least GET to the series against the Cards.

My attitude toward the MLB playoffs is the same as Churchill's quote about "Democracy being the worst form of government except for all the other ones tried." Even if Pittsburg would have won every other division, it did not win its own division having played almost the same schedule as the team ahead of them. Before 1969 - St. Louis would be booking its trip to Kansas City and we would be redoing the 1985 World Series this week.

With the unbalanced schedules that Divisional play creates, the current system is pretty fair. The strength of divisions goes up and down - for awhile the AL East was a beast now it is the least.

I am happy for Houston, it has been a long wait for them.

when i saw carter denied a walk on that low tanaka pitch outside the strike zone, i kvetched, 'i sure hope the ump calls it both ways.' he did. very consistent strike zone from the ump.

rasmus didn't wait, he homered on a pitch outside the strike zone.
