One of my very favorite quotes concerning Baseball came out of Earl Weaver's mouth. Speaking to a nervous, young reporter early in the year he said "Son, you've got to relax. This ain't football...we do this every day." 31 days and counting until pitchers and catchers report!

As usual the Giants have been pretty quite during the off season. Nice signing of Aoki for left field. He can hit but can he field? The AT&T outfield is tough. Of course the Giants haven't had a decent hitting/fielding left fielder since that Barry guy was in his prime but I'm afraid to bring him up.
Signing MgGehee to play third is a stop gap measure. It will be tough to replace Sandoval.
Other than that the Giants have re-signed Blanco and Romo are working on signing Crawford.
I really hope they re-sign Crawford soon. He is the most underrated shortstop in baseball. The Giants would not be the same team without him.
I see our GM do this every year and every year I scratch my head and wonder what they are doing. Then they go and win another World Series.
A lot of folks are saying the Giants won't win it all this year because they only win every other year. I doubt if Giants management or the players are thinking that.

Every time he comes in a game I think of the old "Camptown Races" song. I don't want to but I just can't help it. Sometimes I even start singing. Poor guy probably heard it all his life from wise guys like me.

I work in a building populated with 6th, 7th and 8th graders. I imagine those years were the worst for poor ($4,500,000!!!!!!!) Mr. Duda...

Pitchers and catchers report on the 20th. And, (drumroll) the Mariners remain in first with less than a month to go! They were close last year, and they added Nelson Cruz. If Austin Jackson reverts to form and the Mariners get decent production from the rest of the outfield from Dustin Ackley and whoever ends up in right field, they could have a pretty good offense to go with their lights out pitching staff. I hope James Jones asserts himself in right, since he's just flat fun to watch.

Cruz won't hit all that well at home, but he should be a huge help on the road. The Mariners play in death valley for right handed pull hitters. Cruz is a right handed pull hitter. Oh, well.

I stand corrected. I got the 20th from the Mariners' website. I guess their pitchers and catchers report a little later than others'. A couple days hasn't seemed to hurt their staff's performance too much in the last few years. Maybe the Mariners should have hitters report early and let pitchers and catchers relax a bit longer.
