It's August. The Mariners lost to the Astros. The A's have caught the Mariners for the second wild card. As a well trained Mariners fan, I'm descending into the pit of despair. With any luck, it's a shallow pit and they haven't begun the annual slide into irrelevance. If they have, at least they held out until August this year.

My friend, David, had a Great idea tonight!

When an Umpire gets a call overturned, he has to drop n give ya 20.
The game goes on without him, and there are ‘only’ 3 Umpires until that 20 gets done.
That would account for the peer pressure that might become apparent! :roflmao:

When I used to coach Babe Ruth, I had a rule. If the player took a called third strike, they owed me 10 pushups. If they hit a legimate extra base hit, I would give 20. First inning, first game, a player hit a double. Ashe was rounding first, he yelled out, "Coach give me 20". I did them right in the coach's box. The players loved it.

Looks like the Mariners have begun their annual slide into oblivion. August, when Seattle baseball fans' minds turn to the upcoming football season. I was hoping they would keep me interested all the way until September. They still might, but I'm well trained and don't expect it at all.

I asked my Bride last night:
“How do I look?”
“You look fine.”
“Do you like the way I’m dressed?”

“Sure, you look like a Hippie Brave’s fan.”

“Well...I’m glad you like it, cuz this is what I’m gonna wear every night until the Braves lose.”

“OH GAWD! Are you gonna do that thing where you think that what you’re Wearing has something to do with the Braves, or the Rangers, or the Giants winning or losing??!!!:roflmao:

“Babe! I’m an American male born at the tail end of the Baby Boom...of Course I think that!
Bazillions Of Guys do!”

“I don’t believe that!”

C’mon, guys...li’l help here.
Do YOU dress to keep a winning streak alive?

(Gimme a break with the pants, huh?
More grey pajama pants than MC Hammer balooon pants, ya know?)

We sat through the game tonight, right down to the last painful out. We were hoping, but not expecting, for Paxton to repeat his last Toronto performance.
That's ok though, it was a beautiful night in the Puget Sound.
All I can come up with at this point is the players started believing the hype.

I was sure hoping that the smoke and mirrors could keep being smoke and mirrors. They could right things and get back into it. They aren't clear out of the chase yet, but it sure feels like the familiar swoon coming on.

No sir. Never have.
I have an uncle who believed in wearing lucky outfits on game day though.
Yanno Mike, the last time Pittsburgh beat <insert city name here>, I was wearing these same pants and hat. That's why I'm wearing them again today.

@MJ5150 I watched Undeniable with Joe Buck last night. The person of interest was Ed Reed. It was a fascinating interview. I was require to hate on Ed since he was a Raven ( Whom I've always felt was the real rival to the Titans ) but man I really ended up with so much respect for the guy, who I admittedly, knew little about. He also happens to be an outstanding Miami Hurricane :bag: Not sure if you saw it or not but it's a fine way to spend an hour.

Meh, Cubs are .500 since the break. Since June 26th, Lester has a 6.81 ERA  and the other starters have been muddling along. Sadly, in order to win the division we have to hope that Hamels can continue to do well after his initial strong showing and that Darvish can come back both healthy and good soon. It wouldn't hurt to have Kris Bryant back, too, though the offense has been strong even without him.
