Wow. If the RedSox can't get JD Martinez into the boat they will literally trot out the exact same lineup as last year. Here's hoping some of the bats that were inconsistent last year can be counted on.

Last year we made the playoffs with the fewest homeruns in the league. If we had even had an "average" homerun year we could have cleaned up.

The Mariners have been keeping the stove hot for the last few years. They have been pretty quiet this off-season, relative. Their farm system isn't setting anything on fire, and they don't seem to be making much of a splash with trades or free agents. What to think! Is it a good sign or a sign that they don't even care any more?

Yesterday I went through the list of baseball movies at the link I noted in post 101. There were about 8 I hadn't seen, so I hit Ebay and ordered most of them on DVD, real cheap. My wife and I will be doing baseball movie nights to get caught up!

I'm hoping the Rockies keep improving - they took a big step last season and they've done some good signings during the off-season. I think they actually have a bullpen!!

Pitchers and catchers report in Mariner land next Wednesday, also known as Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day. Not that I'm thinking about baseball or anything.

I've always said that the day pitchers and catchers report is a holiday in my house. I'm not sure if I'm ok sharing the holiday. :D

For almost 20 years, on the day that (Braves) pitchers and catchers would report, and again on the day of Game 1 of The World Series, my class would gather ‘round the microphone in the front office and sing ‘Take Me Out To The Ballgame’ ( “Katie Casey was Baseball mad, had the fever and had it bad!”) for the whole school.
After the first few years, my 3rd grade class would be joined by my former students!
Those are special memories.
