MLB 2018

Can I guess?
Make himself some money. Clean up the roster (secret for cut the bottom line to improve our profits when we sell), build a 'team of the future', sell high, then take the Yankees job he really wants.

-Mike

The Yankees have never been a team to hire someone in a legit position just because they used to wear the laundry. Making money is one thing that shouldn't be an issue for him. Will have to see.

I like the move by the Brewers, though it cost us 3 very solid prospects. We got a GG outfielder that can hit leadoff in Yelich, and we also signed an All-Star in Cain. I can see an outfield of Yelich, Cain, and Phillips with Braun moving to 1st and Santana and/or Broxton dealt for a starter.

Question is - was that a career year for Yelich (as a Met fan, I think Benny Agbayani, Mike Jacobs, and Ike Davis), or the start of his prime?

He is 26 and is coming off 2 very solid years. He is a career .290 hitter with 18 and 21 home runs over the last 2 years in a pitcher's park. He's coming to the very hitter friendly Miller Park now. I'm not expecting MVP numbers, but he's going to be a solid leadoff hitter.

He also had Stanton and Ozuna surrounding him in the batting order. They HAD to pitch to him.

Hey, I hope you are right. I would love to see them continue what they did last year. Players like this just scare me.

The Brewers are the big movers/shakers this off-season?

The BREWERS???

They also signed Dan Plesac and Rob Deer.
Funny Rob Deer story.....when my buddies and I played baseball as kids, we named each other after MLB players. I became Rob Deer. I'd either strike out or hit it out of the ballpark each at bat. :D
I eventually learned how to play third base, then I turned into Matt Williams.

WOW !!
First I’ve heard of this!
WOW, just WOW...that was about all had say about That!

Very Cool!

Braves Fan...
...been watching/ admiring Mr. Yelich at work for 2+ years, 42 games a year, or so it seemed...
He feels to me like that 24 yr old ‘Cutch...a potential HOFer!

...and Cain from the WS Royals!
He might be one of the most athletic, acrobatic CF since Jim Edmond hung m up.

I cain’t wait to see the Brewers!

The Mariners appear to be making a second baseman into their starting center fielder. I hope the Dee Gordon experiment works. If it does, it's brilliant, since he's a lightening bolt. If not, it's the Mariners. He never, ever walks, but once he's on first, he's going to be on second. He's one of those guys who is so fast that he has to look back to see himself when he gets to the next base. But, can he play center? If he gives up a run every game or two, that could get ugly fast.

It's going to work, because this is the year they win the World Series. Plus, they are in first place, at least for another couple months.

When Ricky, and Mike, and Bobby, and Rick, and Glen, and I played backyard baseball I was always Roy White. :)

Interesting to see the agents and some players out there crying about all the unsigned free agents still. Like the owners are all in cahoots to not pay anyone.
I dunno, maybe some of those guys out there just aren't worth the nutso salaries they want, and maybe someone has finally realized this whole sports salary business is completely out of control with some men making more money in a month or two than some hard working people make in a lifetime. It's so ridiculous now that it's stupid how much some of these men are making, and not just baseball.
Yeah, I get it, the money is there so the players should get as much of that as they can. I'm just hoping that maybe there is this shift in thinking across the board that there doesn't need to be that much money there in the first place.
I like sports, always will, but I get less and less interested in pro sports every time I see some player or agent standing up there talking about these salaries they want with a straight face.

Another theory I heard. Just about every big free agent is represented by Scott Boras. What agent has the reputation for keeping his players out the longest, in order to squeeze every penny? Maybe this is his strategy.

I have no sympathy for either side. Both are making an obsene amount of money, and prices are ridiculous. Ironic that the MLB Player Association is by far the strongest union in the country, while most unions are powerless in comparison.
